In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a revelation was given to Daniel( who was called Belteshazzar). Its message was true and it concerned a great war. The understanding of the message came to him in a vision.

It was the third year that Cyrus, the king of Persia, ruled over Babylon. At that time I was living in Babylon. There the people called me Belteshazzar. A message from God came to me. It was true. It was about a great war. I had a vision that showed me what it meant.

但以理在王面前，一直到居鲁士王元年。

至于所提到的有关两千三百个晚上和早晨的异象是真实的，但你要封住这异象，因为这是关于将来许多的日子。”

这样，大流士在位的时候和波斯人居鲁士在位的时候，这但以理都事事通达。

太监总管给了他们新的名字，称但以理为伯提沙撒，哈纳尼雅为沙德拉克，米沙利为米沙克，亚撒利雅为亚伯尼哥。

至于这四个年轻人，神赐给他们在各种文学和智慧上的学识和明达；但以理甚至能领悟各样的异象和异梦。

随后，那位天使对我说：“你当写下：那些被邀请赴羔羊婚宴的人是蒙福的！”他又对我说：“这些都是神真实的话语。”

那时，但以理在王面前回应说：“愿你的礼物归自己，愿你的赏赐给别人；然而我要为王读出这文字，并把那释义显明给王。

但以理啊！你当隐藏这些话语，封住这书卷，直到末后的时期；必有许多人往来奔走，知识也必增多。”

现在我来了，要使你领悟末后的日子将要临到你民的事，因为这异象是关于末后的日子。”

我论居鲁士说：‘我的牧人！他必成就我所喜悦的一切’，论耶路撒冷说：‘必被重建’，又论圣殿说：‘根基必被奠定。’”耶和华紧拉着居鲁士的右手，让列国降服在他面前，使君王们的腰带松开；又让门在他面前敞开，使城门也不关闭——耶和华对所膏立的居鲁士如此说：

至于同一个梦向法老重复了两次，是因为这事已被神命定，神必快速实施。

他说：“但以理啊，你只管去吧！因为这些话语已经被隐藏、被封住了，直到末后的时期。

是他改变时势和时期；是他废王、立王；是他赐智慧给智慧人，赐知识给有悟性的人；

是因为发现但以理里面有超卓的灵性、有理智、有悟性，还能解梦、讲解谜语、解答难题；先王给他起名为伯提沙撒。现在让人把但以理召来，他必讲明那文字的释义。”

他指示我，对我说：“但以理啊，现在我出来，为要使你明达、有悟性！在你开始恳求的时候，就有命令发出，于是我来告诉你，因为你是蒙爱的；你当领悟这话语，要领悟这异象！

最后，那照着我神的名称为伯提沙撒的但以理，来到我面前，他里面有圣洁之神的灵；我就向他说了这梦：

现在我就把关乎真理的事告诉你。“看哪，在波斯又会有三个王兴起！之后第四个王会拥有极大的财富，超过所有的王。他藉着自己的财富变得强盛，就挑动全国与希腊国对立。

看哪，你要成为哑巴，不能说话，一直到这些事成就的日子，因为你不相信我的话！到了时候，我的话就会应验。”

我又听见在乌莱运河中间有人的声音呼喊说：“加百列啊，你当使这人领悟这异象！”
