But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.

Daniel decided not to make himself“ unclean” by eating the king’s food and drinking his wine. So he asked the chief official for a favor. He wanted permission not to make himself“ unclean” with the king’s food and wine.

But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself.

But Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods.

Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, To practice wicked works With men who work iniquity; And do not let me eat of their delicacies.

Then the Lord said,“ So shall the children of Israel eat their defiled bread among the Gentiles, where I will drive them.”So I said,“ Ah, Lord GOD! Indeed I have never defiled myself from my youth till now; I have never eaten what died of itself or was torn by beasts, nor has abominable flesh ever come into my mouth.”

They shall not dwell in the LORD’s land, But Ephraim shall return to Egypt, And shall eat unclean things in Assyria.They shall not offer wine offerings to the Lord, Nor shall their sacrifices be pleasing to Him. It shall be like bread of mourners to them; All who eat it shall be defiled. For their bread shall be for their own life; It shall not come into the house of the Lord.

For I am the Lord who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.‘ This is the law of the animals and the birds and every living creature that moves in the waters, and of every creature that creeps on the earth,to distinguish between the unclean and the clean, and between the animal that may be eaten and the animal that may not be eaten.’”

Observe Israel after the flesh: Are not those who eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything?Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons.You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.

Depart from me, you evildoers, For I will keep the commandments of my God!

Nevertheless he who stands steadfast in his heart, having no necessity, but has power over his own will, and has so determined in his heart that he will keep his virgin, does well.

Who ate the fat of their sacrifices, And drank the wine of their drink offering? Let them rise and help you, And be your refuge.

When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord.

So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

And the king appointed for them a daily provision of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank, and three years of training for them, so that at the end of that time they might serve before the king.

But if anyone says to you,“ This was offered to idols,” do not eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for conscience’ sake; for“ the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.”“ Conscience,” I say, not your own, but that of the other. For why is my liberty judged by another man’s conscience?But if I partake with thanks, why am I evil spoken of for the food over which I give thanks?Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

I have sworn and confirmed That I will keep Your righteous judgments.

However, there is not in everyone that knowledge; for some, with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.But food does not commend us to God; for neither if we eat are we the better, nor if we do not eat are we the worse.But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak.For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols?

Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died.Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil;for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

But Peter said,“ Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”And a voice spoke to him again the second time,“ What God has cleansed you must not call common.”This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.

And behold, I propose to build a house for the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spoke to my father David, saying,“ Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, he shall build the house for My name.”

Where you die, I will die, And there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, If anything but death parts you and me.”When she saw that she was determined to go with her, she stopped speaking to her.

They joined themselves also to Baal of Peor, And ate sacrifices made to the dead.
