但如果一个人自己心里坚定不移，也不出于勉强，又对自己的意愿有主权，并且自己心里已经决定留下自己的童贞女儿，那么他就做得好。

每个人要照着心里预先定好的，不要为难，也不要勉强，因为神喜爱那乐意给与的人。

王从自己的美食和所饮用的酒中，给他们指定了每天的份额，要他们受教养三年；三年结束后，他们将在王面前侍立。

但如果有人对你们说：“这是祭过偶像的食物”，那么，为了那指明这事的人和良心的缘故，你们就不要吃——我说的良心不是你自己的，而是那个人的，因为我的自由何必被别人的良心评断呢？如果我怀着感恩的心领受，难道有什么能使我为所感谢的东西而受到毁谤吗？因此，你们无论或吃、或喝、或做什么，一切都要为神的荣耀而做。

我起了誓并且坚守，要遵守你公义的法规。

然而，不是所有的人都有这知识。有些人因习惯了偶像，至今还以为所吃的是祭过偶像的食物。他们的良心因为软弱，就被玷污了。其实食物不能使我们接近神；我们如果不吃也不会缺少什么，吃了也不会增加什么。不过要当心，免得你们的这权利成了软弱之人的绊跌物。因为，如果有人看见你这有知识的人在偶像的庙里坐席，难道不就鼓励了他软弱的良心，使他也去吃那祭过偶像的食物吗？

如果因食物的缘故使你的弟兄忧伤，你就不再是凭着爱行事了。基督已经替他死了，不可因你的食物毁了他。所以，不要让你们看为好的事受到毁谤，因为神的国不在于吃喝，而在于圣灵里的公义、和睦、喜乐。

彼得却说：“主啊，千万不可！因为我从来没有吃过任何俗物和不洁净的东西。”那声音第二次又对他说：“神所洁净的，你不可当做污秽的。”这样一连有三次，那东西随即被收回天上去了。

你死在哪里，我也死在哪里、葬在哪里。除了死以外，如果有什么使你我分离，就愿耶和华处置我，重重地处置我！”娜娥米看见路得已经决意要与她一同走，就不再对她说什么了。
