young men in whom there was no physical defect and who were handsome, well versed in all kinds of wisdom, well educated and having keen insight, and who were capable of entering the king’s royal service– and to teach them the literature and language of the Babylonians.

皆無瑕疵、丰采甚都、智識兼備、可立於朝者、教以迦勒底人語言文字王日賜以糈糧酒醴、比及三年、乃使侍於王前、

選少者數人、皆須無瑕疵、相貌俊美、通達各學各術、知識具備、可侍立於王宮者、當教之以迦勒底之文詞言語、

young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians.

He was looking for young men who were healthy and handsome. They had to be able to learn anything. They had to be well educated. They had to have the ability to understand new things quickly and easily. The king wanted men who could serve in his palace. Ashpenaz was supposed to teach them the Babylonian language and writings.

youths without blemish, of good appearance and skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding learning, and competent to stand in the king’s palace, and to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans.

“ Select only strong, healthy, and good looking young men,” he said.“ Make sure they are well versed in every branch of learning, are gifted with knowledge and good judgment, and are suited to serve in the royal palace. Train these young men in the language and literature of Babylon.”

There is a man in your kingdom who has within him a spirit of the holy gods. In the days of your father, he proved to have insight, discernment, and wisdom like that of the gods. King Nebuchadnezzar your father appointed him chief of the magicians, astrologers, wise men, and diviners.

So Moses was trained in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in his words and deeds.

Now in all Israel everyone acknowledged that there was no man as handsome as Absalom. From the sole of his feet to the top of his head he was perfect in appearance.

Do you see a person skilled in his work? He will take his position before kings; he will not take his position before obscure people.

If a man inflicts an injury on his fellow citizen, just as he has done it must be done to him–fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth– just as he inflicts an injury on another person that same injury must be inflicted on him.

Now as for these four young men, God endowed them with knowledge and skill in all sorts of literature and wisdom– and Daniel had insight into all kinds of visions and dreams.When the time appointed by the king arrived, the overseer of the court officials brought them into Nebuchadnezzar’s presence.When the king spoke with them, he did not find among the entire group anyone like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, or Azariah. So they entered the king’s service.In every matter of wisdom and insight the king asked them about, he found them to be ten times better than any of the magicians and astrologers that were in his entire empire.

Certainly no man who has a physical flaw is to approach: a blind man, or one who is lame, or one with a slit nose, or a limb too long,or a man who has had a broken leg or arm,or a hunchback, or a dwarf, or one with a spot in his eye, or a festering eruption, or a feverish rash, or a crushed testicle.No man from the descendants of Aaron the priest who has a physical flaw may step forward to present the LORD’s gifts; he has a physical flaw, so he must not step forward to present the food of his God.

The king called out loudly to summon the astrologers, wise men, and diviners. The king proclaimed to the wise men of Babylon that anyone who could read this inscription and disclose its interpretation would be clothed in purple and have a golden collar placed on his neck and be third ruler in the kingdom.

At that time Moses was born, and he was beautiful to God. For three months he was brought up in his father’s house,

The wise men replied to the king:[ What follows is in Aramaic]“ O king, live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will disclose its interpretation.”The king replied to the wise men,“ My decision is firm. If you do not inform me of both the dream and its interpretation, you will be dismembered and your homes reduced to rubble!

The king issued an order to summon the magicians, astrologers, sorcerers, and wise men in order to explain his dreams to him. So they came and awaited the king’s instructions.

When the magicians, astrologers, wise men, and diviners entered, I recounted the dream for them. But they were unable to make known its interpretation to me.

He said to Zebah and Zalmunna,“ Describe for me the men you killed at Tabor.” They said,“ They were like you. Each one looked like a king’s son.”

Now at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and brought malicious accusations against the Jews.

Wisdom gives a wise person more protection than ten rulers in a city.

so that he may present the church to himself as glorious– not having a stain or wrinkle, or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.

The wise men replied to the king,“ There is no man on earth who is able to disclose the king’s secret, for no king, regardless of his position and power, has ever requested such a thing from any magician, astrologer, or wise man.

saying,“ Let the name of God be praised forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to him.He changes times and seasons, deposing some kings and establishing others. He gives wisdom to the wise; he imparts knowledge to those with understanding;
