young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians.

He was looking for young men who were healthy and handsome. They had to be able to learn anything. They had to be well educated. They had to have the ability to understand new things quickly and easily. The king wanted men who could serve in his palace. Ashpenaz was supposed to teach them the Babylonian language and writings.

“ Select only strong, healthy, and good looking young men,” he said.“ Make sure they are well versed in every branch of learning, are gifted with knowledge and good judgment, and are suited to serve in the royal palace. Train these young men in the language and literature of Babylon.”

此四少者、上帝賜以知識聰睿、精於文字學術、但以理洞悉諸啟示及夢兆、屆王所定少者入覲之期、宦官長引之見尼布甲尼撒、王與之言、見其中無及但以理、哈拿尼雅、米沙利、亞撒利雅者、遂侍於王前、王於所詢智慧明哲之事、見其愈於舉國之巫人術士十倍、

凡體有疵者、不得近之、如瞽、跛、凹鼻、肢體不均、或手足傷毀、或傴僂、或侏儒、或瞕翳、或疥癬、或瘡痍、或傷損外腎、凡祭司亞倫之裔、厥體有疵者、勿近耶和華、以獻火祭、體既有疵、不得進前、獻食於其上帝、

乃大聲而呼、命召術士、迦勒底人、卜筮咸入、王告巴比倫哲士曰、讀斯文為我解之者、必身衣絳袍、項垂金索、治國職居其三、

時、摩西生而俊秀、育於父家三月、

迦勒底人以亞蘭方言奏王曰、願王萬歲、請以夢告僕、我則解之、王曰、我命已出、如爾不以夢、及其解告我、必解爾體、使爾室為糞場、

乃召巫人、術士卜筮、及迦勒底人咸至、為王說夢、眾入、立於王前、

於是巫人術士、迦勒底人、卜筮皆至、我告以夢、彼未為我解之、
