In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.

He asked them for advice in matters that required wisdom and understanding. The king always found their answers to be the best. Other men in his kingdom claimed to get knowledge by using magic. But the answers of Daniel and his friends were ten times better than theirs.

And in every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters that were in all his kingdom.

Whenever the king consulted them in any matter requiring wisdom and balanced judgment, he found them ten times more capable than any of the magicians and enchanters in his entire kingdom.

As for every matter of expertise and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the soothsayer priests and conjurers who were in all his realm.

And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm.

And in every matter of wisdom and understanding, concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters that were in all his realm.

God gave Solomon wisdom, very great insight, and understanding as vast as the sand on the seashore.Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, greater than all the wisdom of Egypt.He was wiser than anyone— wiser than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, Calcol, and Darda, sons of Mahol. His reputation extended to all the surrounding nations.Solomon spoke 3,000 proverbs, and his songs numbered 1,005.He spoke about trees, from the cedar in Lebanon to the hyssop growing out of the wall. He also spoke about animals, birds, reptiles, and fish.Emissaries of all peoples, sent by every king on earth who had heard of his wisdom, came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom.

“ This is the finger of God,” the magicians said to Pharaoh. But Pharaoh’s heart was hard, and he would not listen to them, as the LORD had said.

When morning came, he was troubled, so he summoned all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but no one could interpret them for him.

So take your stand with your spells and your many sorceries, which you have wearied yourself with from your youth. Perhaps you will be able to succeed; perhaps you will inspire terror!You are worn out with your many consultations. So let the astrologers stand and save you— those who observe the stars, those who predict monthly what will happen to you.Look, they are like stubble; fire burns them. They cannot rescue themselves from the power of the flame. This is not a coal for warming themselves, or a fire to sit beside!

But the magicians did the same thing by their occult practices and brought frogs up onto the land of Egypt.

Egypt’s spirit will be disturbed within it, and I will frustrate its plans. Then they will inquire of worthless idols, ghosts, mediums, and spiritists.

When the Jews who lived nearby arrived, they said to us time and again,“ Everywhere you turn, they attack us.”

King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the world in riches and in wisdom.The whole world wanted an audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom that God had put in his heart.

But the magicians of Egypt did the same thing by their occult practices. So Pharaoh’s heart was hard, and he would not listen to them, as the LORD had said.

none of the men who have seen my glory and the signs I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tested me these ten times and did not obey me,

The decree was issued that the wise men were to be executed, and they searched for Daniel and his friends, to execute them.

and that he has cheated me and changed my wages ten times. But God has not let him harm me.

You have humiliated me ten times now, and you mistreat me without shame.

So the king gave orders to summon the magicians, mediums, sorcerers, and Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. When they came and stood before the king,he said to them,“ I have had a dream and am anxious to understand it.”The Chaldeans spoke to the king( Aramaic begins here):“ May the king live forever. Tell your servants the dream, and we will give the interpretation.”The king replied to the Chaldeans,“ My word is final: If you don’t tell me the dream and its interpretation, you will be torn limb from limb, and your houses will be made a garbage dump.But if you make the dream and its interpretation known to me, you’ll receive gifts, a reward, and great honor from me. So make the dream and its interpretation known to me.”They answered a second time,“ May the king tell the dream to his servants, and we will make known the interpretation.”The king replied,“ I know for certain you are trying to gain some time, because you see that my word is final.If you don’t tell me the dream, there is one decree for you. You have conspired to tell me something false or fraudulent until the situation changes. So tell me the dream and I will know you can give me its interpretation.”The Chaldeans answered the king,“ No one on earth can make known what the king requests. Consequently, no king, however great and powerful, has ever asked anything like this of any magician, medium, or Chaldean.What the king is asking is so difficult that no one can make it known to him except the gods, whose dwelling is not with mortals.”

Daniel answered the king,“ No wise man, medium, magician, or diviner is able to make known to the king the mystery he asked about.But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has let King Nebuchadnezzar know what will happen in the last days. Your dream and the visions that came into your mind as you lay in bed were these:

The king shouted to bring in the mediums, Chaldeans, and diviners. He said to these wise men of Babylon,“ Whoever reads this inscription and gives me its interpretation will be clothed in purple, have a gold chain around his neck, and have the third highest position in the kingdom.”So all the king’s wise men came in, but none could read the inscription or make its interpretation known to him.

When the magicians, mediums, Chaldeans, and diviners came in, I told them the dream, but they could not make its interpretation known to me.Finally Daniel, named Belteshazzar after the name of my god— and a spirit of the holy gods is in him— came before me. I told him the dream:“ Belteshazzar, head of the magicians, because I know that you have the spirit of the holy gods and that no mystery puzzles you, explain to me the visions of my dream that I saw, and its interpretation.In the visions of my mind as I was lying in bed, I saw this: There was a tree in the middle of the earth, and it was very tall.The tree grew large and strong; its top reached to the sky, and it was visible to the ends of the earth.Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit was abundant, and on it was food for all. Wild animals found shelter under it, the birds of the sky lived in its branches, and every creature was fed from it.“ As I was lying in my bed, I also saw in the visions of my mind a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven.He called out loudly: Cut down the tree and chop off its branches; strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the animals flee from under it, and the birds from its branches.But leave the stump with its roots in the ground and with a band of iron and bronze around it in the tender grass of the field. Let him be drenched with dew from the sky and share the plants of the earth with the animals.Let his mind be changed from that of a human, and let him be given the mind of an animal for seven periods of time.This word is by decree of the watchers, and the decision is by command from the holy ones. This is so that the living will know that the Most High is ruler over human kingdoms. He gives them to anyone he wants and sets the lowliest of people over them.This is the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, had. Now, Belteshazzar, tell me the interpretation, because none of the wise men of my kingdom can make the interpretation known to me. But you can, because you have a spirit of the holy gods.”

But then Pharaoh called the wise men and sorcerers— the magicians of Egypt, and they also did the same thing by their occult practices.Each one threw down his staff, and it became a serpent. But Aaron’s staff swallowed their staffs.

I have more insight than all my teachers because your decrees are my meditation.

Just as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth. They are men who are corrupt in mind and worthless in regard to the faith.But they will not make further progress, for their foolishness will be clear to all, as was the foolishness of Jannes and Jambres.

He changes the times and seasons; he removes kings and establishes kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.

The queen of Sheba heard about Solomon’s fame connected with the name of the LORD and came to test him with difficult questions.She came to Jerusalem with a very large entourage, with camels bearing spices, gold in great abundance, and precious stones. She came to Solomon and spoke to him about everything that was on her mind.So Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too difficult for the king to explain to her.

Then Daniel answered the king,“ You may keep your gifts and give your rewards to someone else; however, I will read the inscription for the king and make the interpretation known to him.
