I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts.

“ Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God.

For this reason, I am very eager to send him so that you may rejoice again when you see him and I may be less anxious.

to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor, and the day of our God’s vengeance; to comfort all who mourn,to provide for those who mourn in Zion; to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, festive oil instead of mourning, and splendid clothes instead of despair. And they will be called righteous trees, planted by the LORD to glorify him.

As a result, you should instead forgive and comfort him. Otherwise, he may be overwhelmed by excessive grief.

As you know, like a father with his own children,

I urged Titus to go, and I sent the brother with him. Titus didn’t take advantage of you, did he? Didn’t we walk in the same spirit and in the same footsteps?

And we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s coworker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you concerning your faith,

And we exhort you, brothers and sisters: warn those who are idle, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
