爾既與基督同死、以絕世之小學、胡為從乎世、服於儀文乎、

爾效基督之死、脫此世小學、奚可從世故、尚儀文乎、

若爾與基督同死、脫斯世之賤質、何仍遵儀文、似猶活於世俗中、

爾等既與基督同死、而已灑然脫於世俗之蒙學矣、乃何又鰓鰓遵循人為之禁令、一若尚生於世俗之中耶？

Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules:

Some people still follow the basic spiritual powers of the world. But you died with Christ as far as these powers are concerned. So why do you act as if you still belong to the world? Here are the rules you follow.

If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations—

If you died with Christ to the elements of this world, why do you live as if you still belonged to the world? Why do you submit to regulations:

If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as,

Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations—

If ye died with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, do ye subject yourselves to ordinances,

If you died with the Messiah to the elemental forces of this world, why do you live as if you still belonged to the world? Why do you submit to regulations:

Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,

If you have died with Christ to the elemental spirits of the world, why do you submit to them as though you lived in the world?

If you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances,

Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.

And that’s the way it was with us before Christ came. We were like children; we were slaves to the basic spiritual principles of this world.

So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths.

He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.

We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one.

So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin.You won’t spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God.You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy— their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united with the one who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God.When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death.But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit.

For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law— I stopped trying to meet all its requirements— so that I might live for God.My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace, not from rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them.

We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do.

He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups.

You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.

As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.

I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one.They do not belong to this world any more than I do.

So now that you know God( or should I say, now that God knows you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual principles of this world?You are trying to earn favor with God by observing certain days or months or seasons or years.I fear for you. Perhaps all my hard work with you was for nothing.Dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to live as I do in freedom from these things, for I have become like you Gentiles— free from those laws. You did not mistreat me when I first preached to you.

The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.

Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death?For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was.We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him.We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him.When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God.So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.

For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
