Those who swear by the sin of Samaria, and say,‘ As your god, Dan, lives;’ and,‘ As the way of Beersheba lives;’ they will fall, and never rise up again.”

Those who swear by the sin of Samaria— who say,‘ As surely as your god lives, Dan,’ or,‘ As surely as the god of Beersheba lives’— they will fall, never to rise again.”

Some people make promises in the name of Samaria’s god. That god has led them astray. Others say,‘ People of Dan, you can be sure that your god is alive.’ Still others say,‘ You can be sure that Beersheba’s god is alive.’ But all these people will fall dead. They will never get up again.”

Those who swear by the Guilt of Samaria, and say,‘ As your god lives, O Dan,’ and,‘ As the Way of Beersheba lives,’ they shall fall, and never rise again.”

And those who swear by the shameful idols of Samaria— who take oaths in the name of the god of Dan and make vows in the name of the god of Beersheba— they will all fall down, never to rise again.”

These are the ones who now take oaths in the name of the sinful idol goddess of Samaria. They vow,‘ As surely as your god lives, O Dan,’ or‘ As surely as your beloved one lives, O Beer Sheba!’ But they will fall down and not get up again.”

but don’t seek Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and don’t pass to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nothing.

I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burned it with fire, and crushed it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust. I threw its dust into the brook that descended out of the mountain.

So the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said to them,“ It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look and behold your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”He set the one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.

and asked for letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until Yahweh’s wrath arose against his people, until there was no remedy.

Now they sin more and more, and have made themselves molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen. They say of them,‘ They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves.’

“ You shall tell them,‘ Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says:“ Drink, and be drunk, vomit, fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.”’

those who worship the army of the sky on the housetops, those who worship and swear by Yahweh and also swear by Malcam,

Yahweh, bless his skills. Accept the work of his hands. Strike through the hips of those who rise up against him, of those who hate him, that they not rise again.”

About that time there arose no small disturbance concerning the Way.

Let burning coals fall on them. Let them be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, from where they never rise.

but came back, and have eaten bread and drank water in the place of which he said to you,“ Eat no bread, and drink no water;” your body will not come to the tomb of your fathers.’”After he had eaten bread, and after he drank, he saddled the donkey for the prophet whom he had brought back.When he had gone, a lion met him by the way and killed him. His body was thrown on the path, and the donkey stood by it. The lion also stood by the body.Behold, men passed by, and saw the body thrown on the path, and the lion standing by the body; and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived.When the prophet who brought him back from the way heard of it, he said,“ It is the man of God who was disobedient to Yahweh’s mouth. Therefore Yahweh has delivered him to the lion, which has mauled him and slain him, according to Yahweh’s word, which he spoke to him.”He said to his sons, saying,“ Saddle the donkey for me,” and they saddled it.He went and found his body thrown on the path, and the donkey and the lion standing by the body. The lion had not eaten the body, nor mauled the donkey.The prophet took up the body of the man of God, and laid it on the donkey, and brought it back. He came to the city of the old prophet to mourn, and to bury him.He laid his body in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying,“ Alas, my brother!”After he had buried him, he spoke to his sons, saying,“ When I am dead, bury me in the tomb in which the man of God is buried. Lay my bones beside his bones.For the saying which he cried by Yahweh’s word against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, will surely happen.”After this thing Jeroboam didn’t return from his evil way, but again made priests of the high places from among all the people. Whoever wanted to, he consecrated him, that there might be priests of the high places.This thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off, and to destroy it from off the surface of the earth.

He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he has sinned, and with which he has made Israel to sin.”

Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar. He did so in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made, and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made.

There the workers of iniquity are fallen. They are thrust down, and shall not be able to rise.

“ Though you, Israel, play the prostitute, yet don’t let Judah offend; and don’t come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beth Aven, nor swear,‘ As Yahweh lives.’

Let Samaria throw out his calf idol! My anger burns against them! How long will it be until they are capable of purity?For this is even from Israel! The workman made it, and it is no God; indeed, the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

Samaria will bear her guilt; for she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women will be ripped open.”

“ The virgin of Israel has fallen; She shall rise no more. She is cast down on her land; there is no one to raise her up.”

Then you shall say,‘ Thus will Babylon sink, and will not rise again because of the evil that I will bring on her; and they will be weary.’” Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

However, Jehu didn’t depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin, the golden calves that were in Bethel and that were in Dan.

This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, although he knew only the baptism of John.

The inhabitants of Samaria will be in terror for the calves of Beth Aven; for its people will mourn over it, Along with its priests who rejoiced over it, for its glory, because it has departed from it.

He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck will be destroyed suddenly, with no remedy.

But when some were hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.

But this I confess to you, that after the Way, which they call a sect, so I serve the God of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law, and which are written in the prophets;

He bought the hill Samaria of Shemer for two talents of silver; and he built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built Samaria, after the name of Shemer, the owner of the hill.
