These are the ones who now take oaths in the name of the sinful idol goddess of Samaria. They vow,‘ As surely as your god lives, O Dan,’ or‘ As surely as your beloved one lives, O Beer Sheba!’ But they will fall down and not get up again.”

Those who swear by the sin of Samaria— who say,‘ As surely as your god lives, Dan,’ or,‘ As surely as the god of Beersheba lives’— they will fall, never to rise again.”

Some people make promises in the name of Samaria’s god. That god has led them astray. Others say,‘ People of Dan, you can be sure that your god is alive.’ Still others say,‘ You can be sure that Beersheba’s god is alive.’ But all these people will fall dead. They will never get up again.”

Those who swear by the Guilt of Samaria, and say,‘ As your god lives, O Dan,’ and,‘ As the Way of Beersheba lives,’ they shall fall, and never rise again.”

And those who swear by the shameful idols of Samaria— who take oaths in the name of the god of Dan and make vows in the name of the god of Beersheba— they will all fall down, never to rise again.”

They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

Those who swear by the sin of Samaria, and say,‘ As your god, Dan, lives;’ and,‘ As the way of Beersheba lives;’ they will fall, and never rise up again.”

Do not seek Bethel! Do not visit Gilgal! Do not journey down to Beer Sheba! For the people of Gilgal will certainly be carried into exile; and Bethel will become a place where disaster abounds.”

As for your sinful thing that you had made, the calf, I took it, melted it down, ground it up until it was as fine as dust, and tossed the dust into the stream that flows down the mountain.

After the king had consulted with his advisers, he made two golden calves. Then he said to the people,“ It is too much trouble for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look, Israel, here are your gods who brought you up from the land of Egypt.”He put one in Bethel and the other in Dan.

and requested letters from him to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any who belonged to the Way, either men or women, he could bring them as prisoners to Jerusalem.

But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his warnings, and ridiculed his prophets. Finally the LORD got very angry at his people and there was no one who could prevent his judgment.

Even now they persist in sin! They make metal images for themselves, idols that they skillfully fashion from their own silver; all of them are nothing but the work of craftsmen! There is a saying about them:“ Those who sacrifice to the calf idol are calf kissers!”

Then the LORD said to me,“ Tell them that the LORD God of Israel who rules over all says,‘ Drink this cup until you get drunk and vomit. Drink until you fall down and can’t get up. For I will send wars sweeping through you.’

I will remove those who worship the stars in the sky from their rooftops, those who swear allegiance to the LORD while taking oaths in the name of their‘ king,’

Bless, O LORD, his goods, and be pleased with his efforts; undercut the legs of any who attack him, and of those who hate him, so that they cannot stand.

At that time a great disturbance took place concerning the Way.

May he rain down fiery coals upon them! May he throw them into the fire! From bottomless pits they will not escape.

You went back and ate and drank in this place, even though he said to you,“ Do not eat or drink there.” Therefore your corpse will not be buried in your ancestral tomb.’”When the prophet from Judah finished his meal, the old prophet saddled his visitor’s donkey for him.As the prophet from Judah was traveling, a lion attacked him on the road and killed him. His corpse was lying on the road, and the donkey and the lion just stood there beside it.Some men came by and saw the corpse lying in the road with the lion standing beside it. They went and reported what they had seen in the city where the old prophet lived.When the old prophet who had invited him to his house heard the news, he said,“ It is the prophet who rebelled against the LORD. The LORD delivered him over to the lion and it ripped him up and killed him, just as the LORD warned him.”He told his sons,“ Saddle my donkey,” and they did so.He went and found the corpse lying in the road with the donkey and the lion standing beside it; the lion had neither eaten the corpse nor attacked the donkey.The old prophet picked up the corpse of the prophet, put it on the donkey, and brought it back. The old prophet then entered the city to mourn him and to bury him.He put the corpse into his own tomb, and they mourned over him, saying,“ Ah, my brother!”After he buried him, he said to his sons,“ When I die, bury me in the tomb where the prophet is buried; put my bones right beside his bones,for the prophecy he announced with the LORD’s authority against the altar in Bethel and against all the temples on the high places in the cities of the north will certainly be fulfilled.”After this happened, Jeroboam still did not change his evil ways; he continued to appoint common people as priests at the high places. Anyone who wanted the job he consecrated as a priest.This sin caused Jeroboam’s dynasty to come to an end and to be destroyed from the face of the earth.

He will hand Israel over to their enemies because of the sins which Jeroboam committed and which he made Israel commit.”

Jeroboam inaugurated a festival on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the festival celebrated in Judah. On the altar in Bethel he offered sacrifices to the calves he had made. In Bethel he also appointed priests for the high places he had made.

I can see the evildoers! They have fallen! They have been knocked down and are unable to get up!

Although you, O Israel, commit adultery, do not let Judah become guilty! Do not journey to Gilgal! Do not go up to Beth Aven! Do not swear,“ As surely as the LORD lives!”

O Samaria, he has rejected your calf idol! My anger burns against them! They will not survive much longer without being punished, even though they are Israelites!That idol was made by a workman– it is not God! The calf idol of Samaria will be broken to bits.

( 14: 1) Samaria will be held guilty, because she rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword, their infants will be dashed to the ground– their pregnant women will be ripped open.

“ The virgin Israel has fallen down and will not get up again. She is abandoned on her own land with no one to help her get up.”

Then say,‘ In the same way Babylon will sink and never rise again because of the judgments I am ready to bring upon her; they will grow faint.’” The prophecies of Jeremiah end here.

However, Jehu did not repudiate the sins which Jeroboam son of Nebat had encouraged Israel to commit; the golden calves remained in Bethel and Dan.

He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and with great enthusiasm he spoke and taught accurately the facts about Jesus, although he knew only the baptism of John.

The inhabitants of Samaria will lament over the calf idol of Beth Aven. Its people will mourn over it; its idolatrous priests will wail over it, because its splendor will be taken from them into exile.

The one who stiffens his neck after numerous rebukes will suddenly be destroyed without remedy.

But when some were stubborn and refused to believe, reviling the Way before the congregation, he left them and took the disciples with him, addressing them every day in the lecture hall of Tyrannus.

But I confess this to you, that I worship the God of our ancestors according to the Way( which they call a sect), believing everything that is according to the law and that is written in the prophets.

He purchased the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver. He launched a construction project there and named the city he built after Shemer, the former owner of the hill of Samaria.
