“ Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord God,“ When I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread or a thirst for water, But rather for hearing the words of the Lord.

Be certain of this, the time is coming,” says the sovereign LORD,“ when I will send a famine through the land– not a shortage of food or water but an end to divine revelation!

Now the boy Samuel was attending to the service of the Lord before Eli. And word from the Lord was rare in those days; visions were infrequent.

We do not see our signs; There is no longer any prophet, Nor is there anyone among us who knows how long.

For many days Israel was without the true God and without a teaching priest and without the Law.

So Saul inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him, either in dreams, or by the Urim, or by the prophets.

Disaster will come upon disaster and rumor will be added to rumor; then they will seek a vision from a prophet, but the Law will be lost from the priest, and counsel from the elders.

Therefore it will be night for you— without vision, And darkness for you— without divination. The sun will go down on the prophets, And the day will become dark over them.

I will lay it waste; It will not be pruned nor hoed, But briars and thorns will come up. I will also command the clouds not to rain on it.”

And Samuel said to Saul,“ Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” Saul replied,“ I am very distressed, for the Philistines are waging war against me, and God has abandoned me and no longer answers me, either through prophets or in dreams; therefore I have called you, so that you may let me know what I should do.”

Although the Lord has given you bread of deprivation and water of oppression, He, your Teacher, will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will see your Teacher.Your ears will hear a word behind you, saying,“ This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.

Seeing the crowds, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and downcast, like sheep without a shepherd.
