在節期中，你和你的兒女、僕婢，以及住在你城裏的利未人、寄居的和孤兒寡婦，都要歡樂。

他們飲酒，讚美金、銀、銅、鐵、木、石造的神明。當時，忽然有人的指頭出現，在燈臺對面王宮粉刷的牆上寫字。王看見寫字的指頭，就變了臉色，心意驚惶，腰骨好像脫節，雙膝彼此相碰，

願黑暗和死蔭索取那日，願密雲停在其上，願白天的昏暗恐嚇它。

為此，我腰部滿是疼痛，痛苦將我抓住，好像臨產的婦人一樣的痛。我疼痛甚至不能聽，我驚惶甚至不能看。我心慌亂，驚恐威嚇我。我所渴望的黃昏，反成為我的恐懼。

你們像雜亂的荊棘，像喝醉了的人，又如枯乾的碎稭，全然燒滅。

他們必為你放聲痛哭，撒塵土於頭上，在灰中打滾；又為你使頭光禿，用麻布束腰，號咷痛哭，痛苦至極。

亞比該到拿八那裏，看哪，他在家裏擺設宴席，如同王的宴席。拿八心情舒暢，酩酊大醉。所以亞比該大小事都沒有告訴他，直等到早晨天亮的時候。到了早晨，拿八酒醒了，他的妻子把這些事都告訴他，他就發心臟病快死了，僵如石頭。過了十天，耶和華擊打拿八，他就死了。

押沙龍吩咐僕人說：「你們注意，暗嫩開懷暢飲的時候，我對你們說擊殺暗嫩，你們就殺他。不要懼怕，這不是我吩咐你們的嗎？你們要剛強，作勇士！」押沙龍的僕人就照押沙龍所吩咐的，向暗嫩行了。王所有的兒子都起來，各人騎上騾子逃跑了。他們還在路上，就有風聲傳到大衛那裏，說：「押沙龍擊殺了王所有的兒子，沒有留下一個。」王就起來，撕裂衣服，躺在地上。王的臣僕全都撕裂衣服，站在旁邊。
