將近城門，有一個死人被擡出來。這人是他母親獨生的兒子；他母親又是寡婦。有城裏的許多人同着寡婦送殯。主看見那寡婦，就憐憫她，對她說：「不要哭！」

他們上巴益，又往底本，到高處去哭泣。摩押人因尼波和米底巴哀號，各人頭上光禿，鬍鬚剃淨。他們在街市上都腰束麻布，在房頂上和寬闊處俱各哀號，眼淚汪汪。

他正要充滿肚腹的時候，神必將猛烈的忿怒降在他身上；正在他吃飯的時候，要將這忿怒像雨降在他身上。

當那日，主－萬軍之耶和華叫人哭泣哀號，頭上光禿，身披麻布。誰知，人倒歡喜快樂，宰牛殺羊，吃肉喝酒，說：我們吃喝吧！因為明天要死了。萬軍之耶和華親自默示我說：這罪孽直到你們死，斷不得赦免！這是主－萬軍之耶和華說的。

主耶和華說：「那日，殿中的詩歌變為哀號；必有許多屍首在各處拋棄，無人作聲。」

你們躺臥在象牙牀上，舒身在榻上，吃羣中的羊羔，棚裏的牛犢；彈琴鼓瑟唱消閑的歌曲，為自己製造樂器，如同大衛所造的；以大碗喝酒，用上等的油抹身，卻不為約瑟的苦難擔憂。所以這些人必在被擄的人中首先被擄；舒身的人荒宴之樂必消滅了。

守節的時候，你和你兒女、僕婢，並住在你城裏的利未人，以及寄居的與孤兒寡婦，都要歡樂。

他們飲酒，讚美金、銀、銅、鐵、木、石所造的神。當時，忽有人的指頭顯出，在王宮與燈臺相對的粉牆上寫字。王看見寫字的指頭就變了臉色，心意驚惶，腰骨好像脫節，雙膝彼此相碰，

願黑暗和死蔭索取那日；願密雲停在其上；願日蝕恐嚇它。

所以，我滿腰疼痛；痛苦將我抓住，好像產難的婦人一樣。我疼痛甚至不能聽；我驚惶甚至不能看。我心慌張，驚恐威嚇我。我所羨慕的黃昏，變為我的戰兢。

你們像叢雜的荊棘，像喝醉了的人，又如枯乾的碎稭全然燒滅。

他們必為你放聲痛哭，把塵土撒在頭上，在灰中打滾；又為你使頭上光禿，用麻布束腰，號咷痛哭，苦苦悲哀。

亞比該到拿八那裏，見他在家裏設擺筵席，如同王的筵席；拿八快樂大醉。亞比該無論大小事都沒有告訴他，就等到次日早晨。到了早晨，拿八醒了酒，他的妻將這些事都告訴他，他就魂不附體，身僵如石頭一般。過了十天，耶和華擊打拿八，他就死了。

押沙龍吩咐僕人說：「你們注意，看暗嫩飲酒暢快的時候，我對你們說殺暗嫩，你們便殺他，不要懼怕。這不是我吩咐你們的嗎？你們只管壯膽奮勇！」押沙龍的僕人就照押沙龍所吩咐的，向暗嫩行了。王的眾子都起來，各人騎上騾子，逃跑了。他們還在路上，有風聲傳到大衛那裏，說：「押沙龍將王的眾子都殺了，沒有留下一個。」王就起來，撕裂衣服，躺在地上。王的臣僕也都撕裂衣服，站在旁邊。

要使你們歌唱的聲音遠離我，因為我不聽你們彈琴的響聲。
