The Lord asked me,“ What do you see, Amos?”“ A plumb line,” I replied. Then the Lord said,“ Look at what I am doing. I am hanging a plumb line next to my people Israel. It will show how crooked they are. I will no longer spare them.

And the Lord said to me,“ Amos, what do you see?” And I said,“ A plumb line.” Then the Lord said,“ Behold, I am setting a plumb line in the midst of my people Israel; I will never again pass by them;

And the Lord said to me,“ Amos, what do you see?” I answered,“ A plumb line.” And the Lord replied,“ I will test my people with this plumb line. I will no longer ignore all their sins.

“ What do you see, Amos?” he asked.“ A basket of ripe fruit,” I answered. Then the Lord said to me,“ The time is ripe for my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.

The Lord determined to tear down the wall around Daughter Zion. He stretched out a measuring line and did not withhold his hand from destroying. He made ramparts and walls lament; together they wasted away.

“ Son of man, this is what the Sovereign Lord says to the land of Israel:“‘ The end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land!The end is now upon you, and I will unleash my anger against you. I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices.I will not look on you with pity; I will not spare you. I will surely repay you for your conduct and for the detestable practices among you.“‘ Then you will know that I am the Lord.’“ This is what the Sovereign Lord says:“‘ Disaster! Unheard- of disaster! See, it comes!The end has come! The end has come! It has roused itself against you. See, it comes!Doom has come upon you, upon you who dwell in the land. The time has come! The day is near! There is panic, not joy, on the mountains.I am about to pour out my wrath on you and spend my anger against you. I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices.I will not look on you with pity; I will not spare you. I will repay you for your conduct and for the detestable practices among you.“‘ Then you will know that it is I the Lord who strikes you.

You have rejected me,” declares the Lord.“ You keep on backsliding. So I will reach out and destroy you; I am tired of holding back.

I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line; hail will sweep away your refuge, the lie, and water will overflow your hiding place.

I will stretch out over Jerusalem the measuring line used against Samaria and the plumb line used against the house of Ahab. I will wipe out Jerusalem as one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down.

but with an overwhelming flood he will make an end of Nineveh; he will pursue his foes into the realm of darkness.Whatever they plot against the Lord he will bring to an end; trouble will not come a second time.

The word of the Lord came to me:“ What do you see, Jeremiah?”“ I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied.The Lord said to me,“ You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.”The word of the Lord came to me again:“ What do you see?”“ I see a pot that is boiling,” I answered.“ It is tilting toward us from the north.”

He asked me,“ What do you see?” I answered,“ I see a flying scroll, twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide.”

Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.
