Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent a message to Jeroboam king of Israel:“ Amos is raising a conspiracy against you in the very heart of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words.

Amaziah was priest of Bethel. He sent a message to Jeroboam, the king of Israel. He said,“ Amos is making evil plans against you right here in Israel. The people in the land can’t stand to listen to what he’s saying.

Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying,“ Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.

Then Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent a message to Jeroboam, king of Israel:“ Amos is hatching a plot against you right here on your very doorstep! What he is saying is intolerable.

Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent word to King Jeroboam of Israel, saying,“ Amos has conspired against you right here in the house of Israel. The land cannot endure all his words,

Then Amaziah the priest of Beth- el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent this message to King Jeroboam of Israel:“ Amos is conspiring against you in the very heart of the kingdom of Israel! The land cannot endure all his prophecies.

Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying,“ Amos has conspired against you in the middle of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.

於是首領對王說：「求你將這人治死；因他向城裏剩下的兵丁和眾民說這樣的話，使他們的手發軟。這人不是求這百姓得平安，乃是叫他們受災禍。」

耶利米說完了耶和華所吩咐他對眾人說的一切話，祭司、先知與眾民都來抓住他，說：「你必要死！你為何託耶和華的名預言，說這殿必如示羅，這城必變為荒場無人居住呢？」於是眾民都在耶和華的殿中聚集到耶利米那裏。猶大的首領聽見這事，就從王宮上到耶和華的殿，坐在耶和華殿的新門口。祭司、先知對首領和眾民說：「這人是該死的；因為他說預言攻擊這城，正如你們親耳所聽見的。」

耶羅波安在邱壇那裏建殿，將那不屬利未人的凡民立為祭司。耶羅波安定八月十五日為節期，像在猶大的節期一樣，自己上壇獻祭。他在伯特利也這樣向他所鑄的牛犢獻祭，又將立為邱壇的祭司安置在伯特利。

猶大王約阿施的兒子亞瑪謝十五年，以色列王約阿施的兒子耶羅波安在撒馬利亞登基，作王四十一年。他行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，不離開尼八的兒子耶羅波安使以色列人陷在罪裏的一切罪。

這事以後，耶羅波安仍不離開他的惡道，將凡民立為邱壇的祭司；凡願意的，他都分別為聖，立為邱壇的祭司。

『耶和華已經立你西番雅為祭司，代替祭司耶何耶大，使耶和華殿中有官長，好將一切狂妄自稱為先知的人用枷枷住，用鎖鎖住。現在亞拿突人耶利米向你們自稱為先知，你們為何沒有責備他呢？

眾人聽見這話就極其惱怒，向司提反咬牙切齒。

他到了便雅憫門那裏，有守門官名叫伊利雅，是哈拿尼亞的孫子、示利米雅的兒子，他就拿住先知耶利米，說：「你是投降迦勒底人哪！」耶利米說：「你這是謊話，我並不是投降迦勒底人。」伊利雅不聽他的話，就拿住他，解到首領那裏。首領惱怒耶利米，就打了他，將他囚在文士約拿單的房屋中，因為他們以這房屋當作監牢。

就告他說：「我們見這人誘惑國民，禁止納稅給凱撒，並說自己是基督，是王。」

祭司音麥的兒子巴施戶珥作耶和華殿的總管，聽見耶利米預言這些事，他就打先知耶利米，用耶和華殿裏便雅憫高門內的枷，將他枷在那裏。次日，巴施戶珥將耶利米開枷釋放。於是耶利米對他說：「耶和華不是叫你的名為巴施戶珥，乃是叫你瑪歌珥‧米撒畢，

耶穌進了殿，正教訓人的時候，祭司長和民間的長老來問他說：「你仗着甚麼權柄做這些事？給你這權柄的是誰呢？」

我們看這個人，如同瘟疫一般，是鼓動普天下眾猶太人生亂的，又是拿撒勒教黨裏的一個頭目，

他們就說：「來吧！我們可以設計謀害耶利米；因為我們有祭司講律法，智慧人設謀略，先知說預言，都不能斷絕。來吧！我們可以用舌頭擊打他，不要理會他的一切話。」

「我們不是嚴嚴地禁止你們，不可奉這名教訓人嗎？你們倒把你們的道理充滿了耶路撒冷，想要叫這人的血歸到我們身上！」

亞哈見了以利亞，便說：「使以色列遭災的就是你嗎？」

「現在你們有意抗拒大衛子孫手下所治耶和華的國，你們的人也甚多，你們那裏又有耶羅波安為你們所造當作神的金牛犢。你們不是驅逐耶和華的祭司亞倫的後裔和利未人嗎？不是照着外邦人的惡俗為自己立祭司嗎？無論何人牽一隻公牛犢、七隻公綿羊將自己分別出來，就可作虛無之神的祭司。

他的哥哥們回答說：「難道你真要作我們的王嗎？難道你真要管轄我們嗎？」他們就因為他的夢和他的話越發恨他。
