Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent a message to Jeroboam king of Israel:“ Amos is raising a conspiracy against you in the very heart of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words.

Amaziah was priest of Bethel. He sent a message to Jeroboam, the king of Israel. He said,“ Amos is making evil plans against you right here in Israel. The people in the land can’t stand to listen to what he’s saying.

Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying,“ Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.

Then Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent a message to Jeroboam, king of Israel:“ Amos is hatching a plot against you right here on your very doorstep! What he is saying is intolerable.

Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent word to King Jeroboam of Israel, saying,“ Amos has conspired against you right here in the house of Israel. The land cannot endure all his words,

Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent this message to King Jeroboam of Israel:“ Amos is conspiring against you in the very heart of the kingdom of Israel! The land cannot endure all his prophecies.

Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying,“ Amos has conspired against you in the middle of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.

於是眾領袖對王說：“這人應該處死，因為他向這城裡剩下的軍兵和眾民說了這樣的話，使他們的手都軟弱無力。這人不是為這人民求平安，卻是惹來災禍的。”

耶利米說完了耶和華吩咐他對眾民所說的一切話，眾祭司、眾先知和眾民就抓住他，說：“你必要死！你為甚麼奉耶和華的名預言，說：‘這殿必像示羅一樣，這城必變為荒場，沒有人居住呢？’”於是眾民在耶和華的殿裡集合到耶利米那裡。猶大的領袖聽見了這些事，就從王宮上到耶和華的殿，坐在耶和華殿裡新門的入口。祭司和先知對領袖和眾民說：“這人應該處死，因為他說預言攻擊這城，正如你們親耳聽見的。”

耶羅波安在邱壇那裡建殿，把不是利未子孫的平民立為祭司。耶羅波安又定了八月十五日為節期，像在猶大的節期一樣，他自己在祭壇上獻祭，他在伯特利也是這樣向他所鑄造的牛犢獻祭；他又在伯特利為他所建造的邱壇設立祭司。

猶大王約阿施的兒子亞瑪謝十五年，以色列王約阿施的兒子耶羅波安在撒瑪利亞登基，他作王共四十一年。他行耶和華看為惡的事，不轉離尼八的兒子耶羅波安使以色列人陷於罪中的一切罪。

這事以後，耶羅波安還不從他的惡道轉回，竟然把平民立為邱壇的祭司；願意的，他都把他們分別為聖，立他們為邱壇的祭司。

耶和華已經立了你西番雅為祭司，代替耶何耶大，作耶和華殿中的總管，你就應把所有妄自說預言的人，都帶上腳鐐枷鎖。現在，亞拿突人耶利米向你們說預言，你為甚麼不斥責他呢？

眾人聽了這些話，心中非常惱怒，就向著司提反咬牙切齒。

他到了便雅憫門，那裡有一個守衛的長官，名叫伊利雅，是哈拿尼雅的孫子、示利米雅的兒子；他拿住耶利米先知，說：“你想去投降迦勒底人！”耶利米說：“這是謊話！我並不是去投降迦勒底人。”但伊利雅不聽他，仍拿住他，把他帶到眾領袖那裡。眾領袖都惱怒耶利米，就打他，並且把他關進監裡，就是在書記約拿單的房子裡，因為他們已把這房子改作監獄。

控告他說：“我們查出這個人煽惑我們的同胞，阻止納稅給凱撒，並且自稱是基督，是王。”

音麥的兒子巴施戶珥祭司，就是耶和華殿的總管，他聽見了耶利米預言這些事，就毆打耶利米先知，把他枷鎖在耶和華殿裡，朝向便雅憫的上門內。次日，巴施戶珥把耶利米從枷鎖上解下來，耶利米就對他說：“耶和華不再稱你的名為巴施戶珥，卻要稱你為瑪歌珥．米撒畢（“瑪歌珥．米撒畢”意即“四圍驚慌”）。

耶穌進了聖殿，正在教導人的時候，祭司長和民間的長老前來問他：“你憑甚麼權柄作這些事？誰給你這權柄？”

我們看這個人就像瘟疫一樣，是煽動普天下猶太人生亂的人，又是拿撒勒派的首領。

他們說：“來吧！我們來設計對付耶利米；因為祭司的律法、智慧人的謀略、先知的話都不會斷絕。來吧！我們用舌頭攻擊他，不理會他的一切話。”

“我們嚴厲地吩咐過你們，不准再奉這名教導。看，你們卻把你們的道理傳遍了耶路撒冷，想要把流這人的血的責任推到我們身上。”

亞哈看見了以利亞，就問他：“給以色列惹麻煩的這個人就是你嗎？”

現在你們有意要反抗大衛子孫手下的耶和華的國；你們人數眾多，你們那裡也有金牛犢，就是耶羅波安為你們所做，當作神的。你們不是驅逐了耶和華的祭司，亞倫的子孫和利未人嗎？你們不是像世上萬民為自己立祭司嗎？無論甚麼人牽來一頭公牛犢和七隻公綿羊，自己授聖職，就可以作那本不是神的祭司。

他的哥哥們對他說：“你真的要作我們的王嗎？真的要管轄我們嗎？”他們就為了約瑟的夢和他的話，越發恨他。
