王和哈曼來同王后以斯帖喝酒。在這第二天酒席中、王又問以斯帖說：『王后以斯帖啊，你求甚麼？我必賜給你；你要甚麼？就是到國的一半，也必給你作成。』

他們如同荊棘叢雜纏結，雖滋潤灌滿如喝醉，終必被燒滅、像乾透了的碎稭。

哈曼又說：『王后以斯帖沒有請別人同王去赴她所豫備的筵席，只請了我；明天也只有我蒙她召請跟王一同去赴宴。但我每逢看見那猶大人末底改坐在御門那裏，總覺得這一切富貴對於我全都無用。』他妻子細利斯和他所有的朋友都對他說：『請叫人立一個五十肘高的示眾木架，明天早晨求王將末底改掛在上頭，你就可以歡歡喜喜地同王去赴筵席了。』這提議哈曼認為滿意，就立了那樣的示眾木架。

王從王宮花園回到酒席大廳；這時哈曼早已伏在以斯帖所靠的榻上；於是王說：『他竟敢在宮內、在我面前污辱王后麼？』這話一出王口，人就把哈曼的臉蒙上。在王面前的太監中有一個叫哈波拿的說：『啊，哈曼為那說忠義話來救王的末底改所立那五十肘高的示眾木架現在正立在哈曼家裏呢。』王說：『把哈曼掛在那上頭。』於是人將哈曼掛在他為末底改所豫備的示眾木架上；王的烈怒這才消熄。
