There are those who hate the one who upholds justice in court and detest the one who tells the truth.

There are people among you who hate anyone who stands for justice in court. They hate those who tell the truth.

They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks the truth.

How you hate honest judges! How you despise people who tell the truth!

They hate the one who convicts the guilty at the city gate, and they despise the one who speaks with integrity.

They hate the one who rebukes in the gate, And they abhor the one who speaks uprightly.

They hate him that reproveth in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

The Israelites hate anyone who arbitrates at the city gate; they despise anyone who speaks honestly.

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat,“ There is still one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord, but I hate him, because he does not prophesy anything good regarding me, but only bad. He is Micaiah the son of Imlah.” But Jehoshaphat said,“ May the king not say so.”

Who cause a person to be indicted by a word, And set a trap for the arbitrator at the gate, And defraud the one in the right with meaningless arguments.

But as for me, I have not hurried away from being a shepherd following after You, Nor have I longed for the disastrous day; You Yourself know that the utterance of my lips Was in Your presence.Do not be a terror to me; You are my refuge in a day of disaster.

But because I say the truth, you do not believe Me.Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me?The one who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”

One who corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself, And one who rebukes a wicked person gets insults for himself.Do not rebuke a scoffer, or he will hate you; Rebuke a wise person and he will love you.

If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.The one who hates Me hates My Father also.If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and hated Me and My Father as well.

The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify about it, that its deeds are evil.

Then Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent word to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying,“ Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is unable to endure all his words.For this is what Amos says:‘ Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel will certainly go from its land into exile.’ ”Then Amaziah said to Amos,“ Go, you seer, flee to the land of Judah; and eat bread there and do your prophesying there!But do not prophesy at Bethel any longer, for it is a sanctuary of the king and a royal residence.”Then Amos replied to Amaziah,“ I am not a prophet, nor am I the son of a prophet; for I am a herdsman and a grower of sycamore figs.But the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me,‘ Go prophesy to My people Israel.’So now hear the word of the Lord: you are saying,‘ You shall not prophesy against Israel nor shall you prophesy against the house of Isaac.’Therefore, this is what the Lord says:‘ Your wife will become a prostitute in the city, your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword, your land will be parceled up by a measuring line, and you yourself will die upon unclean soil. Furthermore Israel will certainly go from its land into exile.’ ”

but they continually mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose against His people, until there was no remedy.

Lord, You persuaded me and I let myself be persuaded; You have overcome me and prevailed. I have become a laughingstock all day long; Everyone mocks me.For each time I speak, I cry aloud; I proclaim violence and destruction, Because for me the word of the Lord has resulted In taunting and derision all day long.But if I say,“ I will not remember Him Nor speak anymore in His name,” Then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; And I am tired of holding it in, And I cannot endure it.For I have heard the whispering of many,“ Terror on every side! Denounce him; let’s denounce him!” All my trusted friends, Watching for my fall, say:“ Perhaps he will be persuaded, so that we may prevail against him And take our revenge on him.”

For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, so that his deeds will not be exposed.

If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.

As he was talking with him, the king said to him,“ Have we appointed you to be a royal counselor? Stop! Why should you be put to death?” Then the prophet stopped and said,“ I know that God has planned to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”
