For you are a holy people belonging to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be his own possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.

For the time has come for judgment to begin with God’s household, and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?

There will be affliction and distress for every human being who does evil, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek;

Just as I entered into judgment with your ancestors in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.I will make you pass under the rod and will bring you into the bond of the covenant.I will purge you of those who rebel and transgress against me. I will bring them out of the land where they live as foreign residents, but they will not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

Yet the LORD had his heart set on your ancestors and loved them. He chose their descendants after them— he chose you out of all the peoples, as it is today.

Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t recognize you and on the families that don’t call on your name, for they have consumed Jacob; they have consumed him and finished him off and made his homeland desolate.

Therefore, this is what the LORD of Armies says:“ I am about to punish them. The young men will die by the sword; their sons and daughters will die by famine.

No, you will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until today.But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”

He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and judgments to Israel.

Should any of the families of the earth not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of Armies, rain will not fall on them.And if the people of Egypt will not go up and enter, then rain will not fall on them; this will be the plague the LORD inflicts on the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Shelters.

But the LORD’s portion is his people, Jacob, his own inheritance.

Indeed, I am about to summon all the clans and kingdoms of the north.” This is the LORD’s declaration. They will come, and each king will set up his throne at the entrance to Jerusalem’s gates. They will attack all her surrounding walls and all the other cities of Judah.

Though they offer sacrificial gifts and eat the flesh, the LORD does not accept them. Now he will remember their guilt and punish their sins; they will return to Egypt.

They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their iniquity; he will punish their sins.

From one man he has made every nationality to live over the whole earth and has determined their appointed times and the boundaries of where they live.
