Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:“ An enemy will overrun your land, pull down your strongholds and plunder your fortresses.”

So the Lord and King says,“ Enemies will take over your land. They will pull down your places of safety. They will rob your forts.”

Therefore thus says the Lord God:“ An adversary shall surround the land and bring down your defenses from you, and your strongholds shall be plundered.”

Therefore, the Lord GOD says: An enemy will surround the land; he will destroy your strongholds and plunder your citadels.

Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:“ An enemy, one surrounding the land, Will take down your fortifications from you, And your citadels will be looted.”

Therefore thus says the Lord GOD:“ An adversary shall be all around the land; He shall sap your strength from you, And your palaces shall be plundered.”

Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: An adversary there shall be, even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be plundered.

Therefore, the Lord God says: An enemy will surround the land; he will destroy your strongholds and plunder your citadels.

They were settled in colonies in Halah, along the banks of the Habor River in Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

During the fourth year of Hezekiah’s reign, which was the seventh year of King Hoshea’s reign in Israel, King Shalmaneser of Assyria attacked the city of Samaria and began a siege against it.Three years later, during the sixth year of King Hezekiah’s reign and the ninth year of King Hoshea’s reign in Israel, Samaria fell.At that time the king of Assyria exiled the Israelites to Assyria and placed them in colonies in Halah, along the banks of the Habor River in Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

Then his army burned the Temple of God, tore down the walls of Jerusalem, burned all the palaces, and completely destroyed everything of value.

And I will destroy the beautiful homes of the wealthy— their winter mansions and their summer houses, too— all their palaces filled with ivory,” says the Lord.

“ What sorrow awaits Assyria, the rod of my anger. I use it as a club to express my anger.I am sending Assyria against a godless nation, against a people with whom I am angry. Assyria will plunder them, trampling them like dirt beneath its feet.

We destroyed Calno just as we did Carchemish. Hamath fell before us as Arpad did. And we destroyed Samaria just as we did Damascus.Yes, we have finished off many a kingdom whose gods were greater than those in Jerusalem and Samaria.So we will defeat Jerusalem and her gods, just as we destroyed Samaria with hers.’”

“ My people have forgotten how to do right,” says the Lord.“ Their fortresses are filled with wealth taken by theft and violence.

Therefore, the Lord will overwhelm them with a mighty flood from the Euphrates River— the king of Assyria and all his glory. This flood will overflow all its channelsand sweep into Judah until it is chin deep. It will spread its wings, submerging your land from one end to the other, O Immanuel.

“ But since my people refuse to return to me, they will return to Egypt and will be forced to serve Assyria.War will swirl through their cities; their enemies will crash through their gates. They will destroy them, trapping them in their own evil plans.

“ Then the Lord will bring things on you, your nation, and your family unlike anything since Israel broke away from Judah. He will bring the king of Assyria upon you!”In that day the Lord will whistle for the army of southern Egypt and for the army of Assyria. They will swarm around you like flies and bees.They will come in vast hordes and settle in the fertile areas and also in the desolate valleys, caves, and thorny places.In that day the Lord will hire a“ razor” from beyond the Euphrates River— the king of Assyria— and use it to shave off everything: your land, your crops, and your people.In that day a farmer will be fortunate to have a cow and two sheep or goats left.Nevertheless, there will be enough milk for everyone because so few people will be left in the land. They will eat their fill of yogurt and honey.In that day the lush vineyards, now worth 1,000 pieces of silver, will become patches of briers and thorns.The entire land will become a vast expanse of briers and thorns, a hunting ground overrun by wildlife.No one will go to the fertile hillsides where the gardens once grew, for briers and thorns will cover them. Cattle, sheep, and goats will graze there.

During Pekah’s reign, King Tiglath pileser of Assyria attacked Israel again, and he captured the towns of Ijon, Abel beth maacah, Janoah, Kedesh, and Hazor. He also conquered the regions of Gilead, Galilee, and all of Naphtali, and he took the people to Assyria as captives.
