This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Moab, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.

This is what the Lord says:“ For three sins of Moab, even for four, I will not relent. Because he burned to ashes the bones of Edom’s king,

The Lord says,“ The people of Moab have sinned again and again. So I will judge them. They burned the bones of Edom’s king to ashes.

Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because he burned to lime the bones of the king of Edom.

This is what the Lord says:“ The people of Moab have sinned again and again, and I will not let them go unpunished! They desecrated the bones of Edom’s king, burning them to ashes.

The LORD says: I will not relent from punishing Moab for three crimes, even four, because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.

Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Moab, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime.

The Lord says: I will not relent from punishing Moab for three crimes, even four, because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away[ the punishment] thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime:

This is what the LORD says:“ Because Moab has committed three crimes– make that four!– I will not revoke my decree of judgment. They burned the bones of Edom’s king into lime.

Yahweh says:“ For three transgressions of Moab, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime;

“ I have heard the taunting of Moab And the abusive speech of the sons of Ammon, With which they have taunted My people And boasted against their territory.Therefore, as I live,” declares the Lord of armies, The God of Israel,“ Moab will assuredly be like Sodom, And the sons of Ammon like Gomorrah— Ground overgrown with weeds and full of salt mines, And a permanent desolation. The remnant of My people will plunder them, And the remainder of My nation will inherit them.”

Concerning Moab. This is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:“ Woe to Nebo, for it has been destroyed; Kiriathaim has been put to shame, it has been captured; The high stronghold has been put to shame and shattered.There is no longer praise for Moab; In Heshbon they have devised disaster against her:‘ Come and let’s cut her off from being a nation!’ You too, Madmen, will be silenced; The sword will follow you.The sound of an outcry from Horonaim,‘ Devastation and great destruction!’Moab is broken, Her little ones have sounded out a cry of distress.For they will go up by the ascent of Luhith With continual weeping; For at the descent of Horonaim They have heard the anguished cry of destruction.Flee, save yourselves, So that you may be like a juniper in the wilderness.For because of your trust in your own achievements and treasures, You yourself will also be captured; And Chemosh will go off into exile Together with his priests and his leaders.A destroyer will come to every city, So that no city will escape; The valley also will be ruined And the plateau will be destroyed, As the Lord has said.Give wings to Moab, For she will flee away; And her cities will become a desolation, Without inhabitants in them.Cursed is the one who does the Lord’s work negligently, And cursed is the one who restrains his sword from blood.“ Moab has been at ease since his youth; He has also been peaceful, like wine on its dregs, And he has not been poured from vessel to vessel, Nor has he gone into exile. Therefore he retains his flavor, And his aroma has not changed.Therefore behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord,“ when I will send to him those who tip vessels, and they will tip him over, and they will pour out his vessels and smash his jars.And Moab will be ashamed of Chemosh, just as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel, their confidence.How can you say,‘ We are warriors, And men competent for battle’?Moab has been destroyed and men have gone up to his cities; His choicest young men have also gone down to the slaughter,” Declares the King, whose name is the Lord of armies.“ The disaster of Moab will soon come, And his catastrophe has hurried quickly.Mourn for him, all you who live around him, And all of you who know his name; Say,‘ How the mighty scepter has been broken, A staff of splendor!’Come down from your glory And sit on the parched ground, O daughter living in Dibon, For the destroyer of Moab has come up against you, He has ruined your strongholds.Stand by the road and keep watch, You inhabitant of Aroer; Ask him who flees and her who escapes And say,‘ What has happened?’Moab has been put to shame, for it has been shattered. Wail and cry out; Declare by the Arnon That Moab has been destroyed.“ Judgment has also come upon the plain, upon Holon, Jahzah, and against Mephaath,against Dibon, Nebo, and Beth diblathaim,against Kiriathaim, Beth gamul, and Beth meon,against Kerioth, Bozrah, and all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near.The horn of Moab has been cut off, and his arm broken,” declares the Lord.“ Make him drunk, for he has become arrogant toward the Lord; so Moab will vomit, and he also will become a laughingstock.Now was Israel not a laughingstock to you? Or was he caught among thieves? For whenever you speak about him you shake your head in scorn.Leave the cities and live among the rocky cliffs, You inhabitants of Moab, And be like a dove that nests Beyond the mouth of the chasm.We have heard of the pride of Moab— he is very proud— Of his haughtiness, his pride, his arrogance, and his self exaltation.I know his fury,” declares the Lord,“ But it is futile; His idle boasts have accomplished nothing.Therefore I will wail for Moab, For all of Moab I will cry out; I will moan for the men of Kir heres.More than the weeping for Jazer I will weep for you, O vine of Sibmah! Your tendrils stretched across the sea, They reached to the sea of Jazer; Upon your summer fruits and your grape harvest The destroyer has fallen.So joy and rejoicing are removed From the fruitful field, and from the land of Moab. And I have eliminated the wine from the wine presses; No one will tread them with shouting, The shouting will not be shouts of joy.From the outcry at Heshbon to Elealeh, to Jahaz they have raised their voice, from Zoar to Horonaim, and to Eglath shelishiyah; for even the waters of Nimrim will become desolate.And I will put an end to Moab,” declares the Lord,“ the one who offers sacrifice on the high place and the one who burns incense to his gods.“ Therefore My heart makes a sound like flutes for Moab; My heart also makes a sound like flutes for the men of Kir heres. Therefore they have lost the abundance it produced.For every head is shaved bald, and every beard cut short; there are gashes on all the hands, and sackcloth around the waists.On all the housetops of Moab and in its public squares there is mourning everywhere; for I have broken Moab like an undesirable vessel,” declares the Lord.“ How shattered it is! How they have wailed! How Moab has turned his back— he is ashamed! So Moab will become a laughingstock and an object of terror to all around him.”For this is what the Lord says:“ Behold, one will fly swiftly like an eagle And spread out his wings against Moab.Kerioth has been captured And the strongholds have been seized, So the hearts of the warriors of Moab on that day Will be like the heart of a woman in labor.Moab will be destroyed from being a people Because he has become arrogant toward the Lord.Terror, pit, and snare are coming upon you, Inhabitant of Moab,” declares the Lord.“ The one who flees from the terror Will fall into the pit, And the one who climbs up out of the pit Will be caught in the snare; For I will bring upon her, upon Moab, The year of their punishment,” declares the Lord.“ In the shadow of Heshbon The fugitives stand without strength; For a fire has spread out from Heshbon And a flame from the midst of Sihon, And it has devoured the forehead of Moab And the scalps of the loud revelers.Woe to you, Moab! The people of Chemosh have perished; For your sons have been taken away captive, And your daughters into captivity.Yet I will restore the fortunes of Moab In the latter days,” declares the Lord. This is the extent of the judgment on Moab.

The pronouncement concerning Moab: Certainly in a night Ar of Moab is devastated and ruined; Certainly in a night Kir of Moab is devastated and ruined.The people have gone up to the temple and to Dibon, to the high places to weep. Moab wails over Nebo and Medeba; Everyone’s head is bald and every beard is cut off.In their streets they have put on sackcloth; On their housetops and in their public squares Everyone is wailing, overcome with weeping.Heshbon and Elealeh also cry out, Their voice is heard all the way to Jahaz; Therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud; His soul trembles within him.My heart cries out for Moab; His fugitives are as far as Zoar and Eglath shelishiyah, For they go up the ascent of Luhith weeping; Indeed, on the road to Horonaim they raise a cry of distress over their collapse.For the waters of Nimrim are desolate. Indeed, the grass is withered, the new growth has died, There is no greenery.Therefore the abundance which they have acquired and stored up, They carry it off over the brook of Arabim.For the cry of distress has gone around the territory of Moab, Its wailing goes as far as Eglaim and its howling to Beer elim.For the waters of Dimon are full of blood; I will certainly bring added woes upon Dimon, A lion upon the fugitives of Moab and the remnant of the land.

‘ The Lord God says this:“ Because Moab and Seir say,‘ Behold, the house of Judah is like all the nations,’therefore, behold, I am going to deprive the flank of Moab of its cities, of its cities which are on its frontiers, the glory of the land, Beth jeshimoth, Baal meon, and Kiriathaim;

When the king of Moab saw that the battle was too fierce for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew swords, to break through to the king of Edom; but they could not.Then the king of Moab took his oldest son who was to reign in his place, and offered him as a burnt offering on the wall. And great anger came upon Israel, and they departed from him and returned to their own land.

This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because they threshed Gilead with iron sledges.

This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Judah, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because they rejected the Law of the Lord And have not kept His statutes; Their lies also have led them astray, Those which their fathers followed.

For the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain, And Moab will be trampled down in his place As straw is trampled down in the water of a manure pile.

My people, remember now What Balak king of Moab planned And what Balaam son of Beor answered him, And what happened from Shittim to Gilgal, So that you might know the righteous acts of the Lord.”

This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Israel, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because they sell the righteous for money, And the needy for a pair of sandals.

because they did not meet you with food and water on the way when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you.Nevertheless, the Lord your God was unwilling to listen to Balaam, but the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you because the Lord your God loves you.

They will swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the west; Together they will plunder the people of the east; They will possess Edom and Moab, And the sons of Ammon will be subject to them.

This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Tyre, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because they turned an entire population over to Edom And did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.

This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Gaza, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because they led into exile an entire population To turn them over to Edom.

They have said,“ Come, and let’s wipe them out as a nation, So that the name of Israel will no longer be remembered.”For they have conspired together with one mind; They make a covenant against You:The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites;Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;

This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because he pursued his brother with the sword And stifled his compassion; His anger also tore continually, And he maintained his fury forever.

So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom, and they made a circuit of seven days’ journey. But there was no water for the army or for the cattle that followed them.

This is what the Lord says:“ For three offenses of the sons of Ammon, and for four, I will not revoke its punishment, Because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead In order to enlarge their borders.

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Watching the evil and the good.

Then the sons of Israel journeyed on, and camped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan opposite Jericho.Now Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.So Moab was in great fear because of the people, for they were numerous; and Moab was in dread of the sons of Israel.Moab said to the elders of Midian,“ Now this horde will eat up all that is around us, as the ox eats up the grass of the field!” And Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time.So he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, at Pethor, which is near the Euphrates River, in the land of the sons of his people, to call for him, saying,“ Behold, a people came out of Egypt; behold, they have covered the surface of the land, and they are living opposite me.Now, therefore, please come, curse this people for me since they are too mighty for me; perhaps I will be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land. For I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.”So the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian left with the fees for divination in their hands; and they came to Balaam and repeated Balak’s words to him.And he said to them,“ Spend the night here, and I will bring word back to you just as the Lord may speak to me.” And the leaders of Moab stayed with Balaam.Then God came to Balaam and said,“ Who are these men with you?”Balaam said to God,“ Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent word to me:‘ Behold, there is a people who came out of Egypt, and they cover the surface of the land; now come, curse them for me; perhaps I will be able to fight against them and drive them out.’ ”But God said to Balaam,“ Do not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.”So Balaam got up in the morning and said to Balak’s representatives,“ Go back to your land, for the Lord has refused to let me go with you.”And the representatives from Moab got up and went to Balak, and said,“ Balaam refused to come with us.”Then Balak sent representatives once again, more numerous and more distinguished than the previous.They came to Balaam and said to him,“ This is what Balak the son of Zippor says:‘ I beg you, let nothing keep you from coming to me;for I will indeed honor you richly, and I will do whatever you tell me. Please come then, curse this people for me.’ ”But Balaam replied to the servants of Balak,“ Even if Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not do anything, either small or great, contrary to the command of the Lord my God.Now please, you also stay here tonight, and I will find out what else the Lord will say to me.”And God came to Balaam at night and said to him,“ If the men have come to call you, rise and go with them; but you shall do only the thing that I tell you.”So Balaam arose in the morning, saddled his donkey, and went with the leaders of Moab.But God was angry that he was going, and the angel of the Lord took his stand in the road as an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him.When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with his sword drawn in his hand, the donkey turned off from the road and went into the field; and Balaam struck the donkey to guide her back onto the road.Then the angel of the Lord stood in a narrow path of the vineyards, with a stone wall on this side and on that side.When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, she pressed herself against the wall and pressed Balaam’s foot against the wall, so he struck her again.
