於是亞述王答應了他。亞述王上去攻打大馬士革，把城攻取，把居民擄到吉珥，又把利汛殺死了。

“以色列人哪！在我看來，你們不是與古實人一樣嗎？我帶領以色列人出埃及地，不是也領非利士人出迦斐託，領亞蘭人出吉珥嗎？”這是耶和華的宣告。

巴比倫的勇士停止作戰，留在堡壘裡面；他們的勇士消退，變成像婦人一樣軟弱。巴比倫的房屋被火焚燒，她的門閂都被折斷。
