Oh, how generous and gracious our Lord was! He filled me with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus.This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it:“ Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”— and I am the worst of them all.But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.

Now send messengers to Joppa, and summon a man named Simon Peter. He is staying in the home of Simon, a tanner who lives near the seashore.’

As he reasoned with them about righteousness and self control and the coming day of judgment, Felix became frightened.“ Go away for now,” he replied.“ When it is more convenient, I’ll call for you again.”He also hoped that Paul would bribe him, so he sent for him quite often and talked with him.

Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.

Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles,“ Brothers, what should we do?”

Joyful are those you discipline, Lord, those you teach with your instructions.

The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas.Then he brought them out and asked,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

For God said to Moses,“ I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.”So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it.For the Scriptures say that God told Pharaoh,“ I have appointed you for the very purpose of displaying my power in you and to spread my fame throughout the earth.”So you see, God chooses to show mercy to some, and he chooses to harden the hearts of others so they refuse to listen.Well then, you might say,“ Why does God blame people for not responding? Haven’t they simply done what he makes them do?”No, don’t say that. Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it,“ Why have you made me like this?”When a potter makes jars out of clay, doesn’t he have a right to use the same lump of clay to make one jar for decoration and another to throw garbage into?In the same way, even though God has the right to show his anger and his power, he is very patient with those on whom his anger falls, who are destined for destruction.He does this to make the riches of his glory shine even brighter on those to whom he shows mercy, who were prepared in advance for glory.And we are among those whom he selected, both from the Jews and from the Gentiles.

My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken!“ I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word.

The Lord is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray.He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way.

The crowds asked,“ What should we do?”

Now get to your feet! For I have appeared to you to appoint you as my servant and witness. Tell people that you have seen me, and tell them what I will show you in the future.

I trembled inside when I heard this; my lips quivered with fear. My legs gave way beneath me, and I shook in terror. I will wait quietly for the coming day when disaster will strike the people who invade us.

God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant.

And later Isaiah spoke boldly for God, saying,“ I was found by people who were not looking for me. I showed myself to those who were not asking for me.”

But the Lord said,“ Go, for Saul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel.And I will show him how much he must suffer for my name’s sake.”

Who are those who fear the Lord? He will show them the path they should choose.

“ I asked,‘ What should I do, Lord?’“ And the Lord told me,‘ Get up and go into Damascus, and there you will be told everything you are to do.’

But many who are the greatest now will be least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then.

For they don’t understand God’s way of making people right with himself. Refusing to accept God’s way, they cling to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law.

But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace. Then it pleased himto reveal his Son to me so that I would proclaim the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles. When this happened, I did not rush out to consult with any human being.

At one time I lived without understanding the law. But when I learned the command not to covet, for instance, the power of sin came to life,

He told us how an angel had appeared to him in his home and had told him,‘ Send messengers to Joppa, and summon a man named Simon Peter.He will tell you how you and everyone in your household can be saved!’

“ But I came by and saw you there, helplessly kicking about in your own blood. As you lay there, I said,‘ Live!’And I helped you to thrive like a plant in the field. You grew up and became a beautiful jewel. Your breasts became full, and your body hair grew, but you were still naked.And when I passed by again, I saw that you were old enough for love. So I wrapped my cloak around you to cover your nakedness and declared my marriage vows. I made a covenant with you, says the Sovereign Lord, and you became mine.

I have seen what they do, but I will heal them anyway! I will lead them. I will comfort those who mourn,

They said,“ We were sent by Cornelius, a Roman officer. He is a devout and God fearing man, well respected by all the Jews. A holy angel instructed him to summon you to his house so that he can hear your message.”

When Saul saw the vast Philistine army, he became frantic with fear.

And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say,“ God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
