But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus.

有一個出生在塞浦路斯的利未人約瑟，使徒們稱他為巴拿巴——「巴拿巴」翻譯出來就是「安慰之子」；

主啊，現在求你鑒察他們的威嚇，使你的奴僕們能滿有膽量地傳講你的話語。

他們看見彼得和約翰的膽量，又了解他們是沒有學問的普通人，就感到驚奇，並且了解他們是曾經與耶穌在一起的；

三年以後，我才上耶路撒冷去見磯法，在他那裡住了十五天。至於其他的使徒，除了主的弟弟雅各，我都沒有見過。

後來巴拿巴到塔爾蘇去找掃羅，

我們已達成了一致，認為應該揀選幾個人，派他們與我們親愛的巴拿巴和保羅一起到你們那裡去。這兩個人都為我們主耶穌基督的名，已經把自己的生命置之度外。

當掃羅趕路，快到大馬士革的時候，忽然有光從天上下來，四面照射他。他仆倒在地上，聽見有聲音對他說：「掃羅，掃羅！你為什麼逼迫我？」他問：「主啊，你到底是誰？」主說：「我就是你所逼迫的耶穌。你起來，進城去！有人會告訴你應該做什麼。」

阿納尼亞就去了。他進了那家，按手在掃羅身上，說：「掃羅弟兄，在你來的路上向你顯現的主耶穌差派我來，使你重見光明，並且被聖靈充滿。」

這消息傳到在耶路撒冷的教會，他們就派巴拿巴到安提阿去。

就立刻在各會堂裡傳講耶穌，說這一位就是神的兒子。所有聽見的人都十分驚訝，說：「這不就是那個在耶路撒冷殘害了那些求告這名的人嗎？而且他來到這裡，不就是為要捆綁他們，帶到祭司長們那裡嗎？」掃羅反而更加得以剛強，證明這一位就是基督，使住在大馬士革的猶太人很狼狽。

保羅、巴拿巴與他們發生了不小的爭執和辯論，他們就指定保羅、巴拿巴和其中的另一些人為這爭議的問題，上耶路撒冷到使徒們和長老們那裡去。

巴拿巴和掃羅完成了那服事的工作，就帶著那稱為馬可的約翰，從耶路撒冷回去了。

保羅和巴拿巴也住在安提阿，與其他許多人一起教導、傳揚主的福音。過了幾天，保羅對巴拿巴說：「來，讓我們回到我們傳過主福音的每一個城，探望弟兄們，看看他們的情況怎麼樣。」巴拿巴一直想要帶那稱為馬可的約翰一起去。但是保羅覺得不該帶他一起去，因為他曾在潘菲利亞省離開他們，沒有陪他們一起去工作。兩個人起了激烈的爭執，以致彼此分手。巴拿巴帶著馬可，坐船到塞浦路斯島去；

他們在服事主、禁食的時候，聖靈說：「來，你們把巴拿巴和掃羅為我分別出來，去做我所召喚他們做的工作！」

也為我祈求，好使我在開口的時候被賜予話語，能坦然無懼地讓人明白福音的奧祕——為此，我成了帶鎖鏈的特使。請為我祈求，使我能照著應該說的，放膽傳道。

其餘的猶太人也跟著他裝假，以致連巴拿巴也被他們的偽善引入歧途。

公認是柱石的雅各、磯法和約翰，既然明白了神所賜給我的恩典，就向巴拿巴和我伸出右手行契合之禮，要我們往外邦人那裡去，而他們往受割禮的人那裡去；

難道只有我和巴拿巴沒有不做工的權利嗎？

最後也顯現給我——這個像是早產嬰兒一樣的人。
