But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus.

有个生在塞浦路斯的利未人名叫约瑟，使徒叫他巴拿巴，意思是劝慰者。

在场的人看到彼得和约翰的胆量，又知道他们原是没有学问的平民百姓，都很惊奇。他们认出这些人跟随过耶稣，

过了三年，我才到耶路撒冷去拜会彼得，和他一起住了十五天。我也见了主耶稣的弟弟雅各，此外没有见过其他使徒。

他又到大数去找扫罗，

所以我们一致决定选派代表，随我们敬爱的巴拿巴和保罗去你们那里。他们二人为我们主耶稣基督的缘故已将生死置之度外。

当他快到大马士革的时候，突然有一道光从天上射下来，四面照着他。他倒在地上，听见有声音对他说：“扫罗！扫罗！你为什么迫害我？”他说：“主啊，你是谁？”那声音说：“我就是你所迫害的耶稣。起来！进城去，有人会告诉你该做的事。”

亚拿尼亚去了，进了那家，就把手按在扫罗身上，说：“扫罗弟兄，在你来的路上向你显现的主耶稣派我来使你重见光明、被圣灵充满。”

耶路撒冷教会的人听到这消息后，就派巴拿巴去安提阿。

便到各会堂去宣讲：“耶稣是上帝的儿子。”听的人都大吃一惊，说：“他不就是那在耶路撒冷迫害信徒的人吗？他到这里来不是要把大马士革的信徒押去见祭司长吗？”但扫罗越发有能力，引经据典证明耶稣是基督，使大马士革的犹太人惊慌失措。

保罗和巴拿巴为这件事与他们激烈地辩论，最后大家决定派保罗、巴拿巴和几个当地的信徒上耶路撒冷去跟使徒和长老讨论这件事。

巴拿巴和扫罗把款项送到以后，就带着约翰·马可从耶路撒冷回去。

保罗和巴拿巴则继续留在安提阿，与许多人一起教导、传扬上帝的道。过了一些日子，保罗对巴拿巴说：“我们回到曾传过福音的各城镇去探望弟兄姊妹吧，好知道他们的情况。”巴拿巴想要带约翰·马可同去，但保罗坚持不带他同行，因为他在旁非利亚离开了他们，没有和他们一起做工。二人激烈地争执起来，僵持不下，只好分道扬镳。巴拿巴和约翰·马可一同乘船去塞浦路斯。

一天，他们正在敬拜主、禁食的时候，圣灵对他们说：“要为我把巴拿巴和扫罗分别出来，好让他们做我呼召他们去做的事。”

也请你们为我祷告，求上帝赐我口才，让我勇敢地把福音的奥秘讲解明白。我为传福音成了披枷带锁的使者。请你们为我祷告，使我能尽忠职守，放胆传福音。

其他的犹太基督徒也跟着彼得装假，甚至连巴拿巴也随从了他们的虚伪。

当时被誉为教会柱石的雅各、彼得和约翰明白了上帝赐给我的恩典之后，就与我和巴拿巴用右手行相交之礼，让我们向外族人传福音，他们向受割礼的人传福音。

难道只有我和巴拿巴要自食其力吗？

到最后，竟也向我这好像未按产期出生的人显现。
