當時有從稱為「自由人」會堂，並古利奈、亞歷山大會堂來的人，還有些從基利家、亞細亞來的人，起來和司提反辯論。司提反是以智慧和聖靈說話，眾人抵擋不住，

然而，義人要持守所行的道，手潔的人要力上加力。

耶穌對他們說：「這就是我從前和你們同在時所告訴你們的話：摩西的律法、先知的書，和《詩篇》上所記一切指着我的話都必須應驗。」於是耶穌開他們的心竅，使他們能明白聖經，

我靠着那加給我力量的，凡事都能做。

他們行走，力上加力，各人到錫安朝見神。

講解和說明基督必須受害，從死人中復活；又說：「我所傳給你們的這位耶穌就是基督。」

但他的弓仍舊堅硬，他的手臂靈活敏捷，這是因雅各的大能者的手，從那裏，他是以色列的牧者，以色列的磐石。

他對我說：「我的恩典是夠你用的，因為我的能力是在人的軟弱上顯得完全。」所以，我更喜歡誇耀自己的軟弱，好使基督的能力覆庇我。為基督的緣故，我以軟弱、凌辱、艱難、迫害、困苦為可喜樂的事；因為我甚麼時候軟弱，甚麼時候就剛強了。
