後來，有些人心裏剛硬不信，在眾人面前毀謗這道；保羅就離開他們，也叫門徒與他們分開，就在推喇奴的講堂天天辯論。

那時，因這道路而起的騷動不小。

但有一件事我向你承認，就是我正按着他們所稱為異端的道事奉我祖宗的上帝，又信合乎律法和先知書上所記載的一切。

這人已經在主的道路上受了訓練，心裏火熱，精確地講論和教導耶穌的事；可是他只知道約翰的洗禮。

腓力斯本是詳細認識這道，就拖延他們，說：「且等呂西亞千夫長下來，我再審判你們的案。」

並且他在這裏有從祭司長得來的權柄，要捆綁一切求告你名的人。」

我也曾迫害信奉這道路的人，置他們於死地，無論男女都捆綁，關在監裏。這是大祭司和議會的眾長老都可以給我作證的。我又從他們那裏領了致弟兄們的書信，往大馬士革去，要把在那裏的信徒綁起來，帶到耶路撒冷受刑。」

「那時，我帶着祭司長的權柄和命令往大馬士革去。

哈曼對亞哈隨魯王說：「有一民族散居在王國各省的民族中，與眾不同；他們的律例與萬民的律例不同，也不守王的律例，所以容留他們對王無益。王若以為好，請下諭旨滅絕他們，我就捐一萬他連得銀子交給管財政的人，納入王的府庫。」於是王從自己手上摘下戒指給猶太人的仇敵，亞甲人哈米大他的兒子哈曼。王對哈曼說：「這銀子賜給你，這民族也交給你，可以照你眼中看為好的待他們。」正月十三日，王的一些書記受召而來，照着哈曼一切所吩咐的，用各省的文字、各族的語言，奉亞哈隨魯王的名寫諭旨，又用王的戒指蓋印，傳給王的總督、各省的省長，以及各族的領袖。詔書由信差傳到王的各省，限令一日之內，就是在十二月，亞達月十三日，把所有的猶太人，無論老少婦女孩子，全然剪除，殺戮滅絕，並搶奪他們的財產。

當時有從稱為「自由人」會堂，並古利奈、亞歷山大會堂來的人，還有些從基利家、亞細亞來的人，起來和司提反辯論。

你們審判不秉公義，抬舉惡人的臉面，要到幾時呢？（細拉）當為貧寒的人和孤兒伸冤，為困苦和窮乏的人施行公義。當保護貧寒和貧窮的人，救他們脫離惡人的手。

他用詭計待我們的宗族，苦待我們的祖宗，強迫他們丟棄嬰孩，使嬰孩不能存活。

過了三天，保羅請當地猶太人的領袖來。他們來了，保羅對他們說：「諸位弟兄，雖然我沒有做甚麼事干犯本國的百姓和我們祖宗的規矩，卻在耶路撒冷被囚禁，交在羅馬人的手裏。他們審問了我，有意要釋放我，因為在我身上並沒有該死的罪狀。但猶太人反對，我不得已只好上訴於凱撒，並不是有甚麼事要控告我本國的百姓。為這緣故，我請你們來見我當面談話，我原是為以色列人所指望的那位才被這鐵鏈捆綁的。」他們對他說：「我們並沒有接到從猶太寄來有關於你的信，也沒有弟兄到這裏來向我們報告，或說你有甚麼不好的地方。但我們願意聽聽你的意見，因為我們知道這教門是到處遭人反對的。」

他們從別加往前行，來到彼西底的安提阿。在安息日，他們進了會堂就坐下。在讀完了律法和先知的書，會堂主管們叫人過去，對他們說：「二位弟兄，你們若有甚麼勸勉眾人的話，請說。」
