後來，當有些人心裡剛硬、不肯信從，在會眾面前誹謗這道的時候，保羅就離開他們，把門徒們分別出來，天天在特拉諾斯講堂裡講論。

就在這時候，為了這道發生了不小的騷動。

不過這一點我向您承認：我是按照他們稱為『異端』的這道，如此事奉我先祖的神，因為我相信一切合乎律法書和先知書上所記載的事；

這個人已經在主的道上受了教導，靈裡火熱，並仔細地講論和教導有關耶穌的事，可是他只知道約翰的洗禮。

因為菲利克斯比較詳盡地了解這道，就推託他們，說：「等千夫長呂西亞下來，我再審斷有關你們的事。」

並且，他得到祭司長們的授權來到這裡，要捆綁所有求告你名的人。」

我曾經逼迫這道的信徒置於死地，無論男女都捆綁起來，關進監獄。這是大祭司和全長老議會的人都可以為我做見證的。我還從他們那裡拿到了給同胞們的一些信函往大馬士革去，要把那裡被捆綁的信徒們，帶到耶路撒冷來受刑。

「那時我得到祭司長們的授權和委任往大馬士革去。

哈曼對亞哈隨魯王說：「有一個民族被打散，分散在你全國各省各民族之間；他們的法令與其他所有民族的都不相同，他們也不遵行王的法令，所以留下他們對王無益。如果王認為好，就請王下旨消滅他們；我將捐出一萬他連得銀子，交在管理國務的人手中，歸入國庫。」於是王從自己手上取下印戒，交給亞甲人哈米達塔的兒子哈曼——猶太人的敵人。王對哈曼說：「那銀子歸於你，這民族也歸於你；你看怎樣好，就怎樣處置他們吧！」一月十三日，王的書記們被召來，照著哈曼所吩咐的一切，給王的行政官們、管理各省的省長和各民族的首領下旨，用各省的文字給各個省，用各民族的語言給各個民族，以亞哈隨魯王的名義下旨，又用王的印戒封印。詔書藉著信使們的手傳送給王的各省：要各省在十二月（亞達月）十三日，一天之內，把所有的猶太人，無論老少、孩童或婦女，都除滅、擊殺、消滅，並且掠奪他們的財物。

可是一些來自稱為「自由人」會堂的人，包括一些古利奈人、亞歷山大人，還有來自奇里乞亞省和亞細亞省的人，起來與司提反辯論，

「你們施行不義的審判，顧及惡人的情面，要到什麼時候呢？細拉你們當為貧弱者和孤兒伸冤，為困苦人和貧窮人施行公義；當挽救貧弱者和貧窮人，解救他們脫離惡人的手！

這王狡猾地對待我們的同胞，虐待我們的祖先，強迫他們丟棄自己的嬰孩，好使嬰孩活不下去。

第三天，保羅請猶太人的首領們來。他們聚集了，保羅就對他們說：「各位兄弟，我沒有做過任何反對我們民族或先祖規矩的事，卻做為囚犯從耶路撒冷被交到羅馬人手中。他們審問我以後，因為沒有處死我的任何理由，本來想要釋放我。但是由於猶太人反對，我被迫向凱撒上訴，並不是有什麼事要控告自己的同胞。因這理由，我請你們來見面談話。其實我是為了以色列所盼望的事，才被這鎖鏈捆鎖的。」他們對保羅說：「我們沒有收到從猶太來的有關你的文件。來到這裡的同胞中，也沒有人報告過或說過任何有關你的壞事。不過我們覺得應該聽聽你的想法，因為我們確實知道有關這教派的事，它到處遭人反對。」

他們從佩爾格往前行，來到皮西迪亞地區的安提阿，在安息日那天，就進了會堂坐下。誦讀了律法和先知書以後，會堂主管們派人來對他們說：「各位兄弟，如果有什麼鼓勵民眾的話，就請說吧。」
