可是有些人心裡剛硬，不受勸化，在群眾面前毀謗這道，保羅就離開他們，也叫門徒與他們分開。他每天在推喇奴學院跟人辯論。

那時，因這道起了大擾亂，

但有一件事我要向你承認，他們所稱為異端的這道，我正是根據這道來敬拜我祖先的神的。一切律法和先知所記的，我都相信。

這人在主的道上受過訓練，心靈火熱，很準確地講論，並且教導人關於耶穌的事，但他只曉得約翰的洗禮。

腓力斯本來就詳細曉得這道，卻故意拖延他們，說：“等千夫長呂西亞來了，再斷定你們的事。”

並且他在這裡得到祭司長的授權，要捆綁所有求告你名的人。”

我曾經迫害信奉這道的人直至死地，把男男女女都捆綁起來，送進監獄，這是大祭司和全公議會都可以給我作證的。我也從他們那裡得到了寫給眾弟兄的信，就去大馬士革，要把那裡的人捆綁起來，帶到耶路撒冷接受懲罰。

“那時候，我得到祭司長的授權和准許，去大馬士革。

哈曼對亞哈隨魯王說：“有一個種族，散居在王國各省各民族之中；他們的法例與各族的法例不同，他們也不遵守王的法規；所以留下他們，對王實在無益。王若是贊成，請王降旨消滅他們；我願捐出三十四萬公斤銀子，交在管理國務的人手中，納入王庫。”於是王從自己的手中取下戒指，交給猶大人的敵人，亞甲族哈米大他的兒子哈曼。王對哈曼說：“這銀子仍賜給你，這民也交給你，你看怎樣好，就怎樣待他們吧。”正月十三日，王的書記都召了來，照著哈曼的一切吩咐，用各省的文字，各族的方言，奉亞哈隨魯王的名下旨，又用王的戒指蓋上印，頒給總督、各省的省長和各族的領袖。王旨交給眾驛使傳到王的各省，吩咐要在一日之內，在十二月，就是亞達月十三日，把所有的猶大人，無論老少婦孺，都全部毀滅、殺絕、除盡，並且搶奪他們的財產。

當時有幾個稱為“自由人”會堂的人，就是從古利奈和亞歷山太來的人，另外還有基利家人和亞西亞人，他們出面與司提反辯論，

“你們不按公義審判，偏袒惡人，要到幾時呢？（細拉）你們要為貧寒的人和孤兒伸冤，為困苦和窮乏的人伸張正義。要搭救貧寒和窮困的人，救他們脫離惡人的手。”

他就謀害我們的同胞，虐待我們的祖先，逼他們拋棄自己的嬰孩，不容嬰孩存活。

過了三天，保羅請猶太人的首領來。他們都到了，保羅說：“各位弟兄，我雖然沒有作過甚麼事反對人民或者反對祖先的規例，卻像囚犯被逮捕，從耶路撒冷交到羅馬人的手裡。他們審訊之後，因為在我身上沒有甚麼該死的罪，就想要釋放我。可是猶太人反對，我迫不得已才上訴凱撒，並不是有甚麼事要控告我的國民。因此，我請你們來見面談談。我原是為了以色列的盼望，才帶上這條鎖鍊的。”他們說：“我們沒有收到猶太來的信，是提到你的，弟兄中也沒有人來報告，或說你甚麼壞話。但我們覺得應該聽聽你本人的意見，因為關於這教派，我們知道是到處遭人反對的。”

他們從別加往前走，到了彼西底的安提阿，在安息日進了會堂，就坐下來。宣讀了律法和先知書以後，會堂的理事們派人到他們那裡來，說：“弟兄們，如果有甚麼勸勉眾人的話，請說吧！”
