可是有些人仍然頑固不信，還當眾毀謗上帝的道。保羅便帶著門徒離開他們，天天在推喇奴的學堂辯論。

就在這時，由於主的道，以弗所又起了很大的騷亂。

但有一點我必須承認，就是我依循他們稱之為異端的道事奉我們祖先的上帝，我也相信律法書和先知書的一切記載，

他在主的道上曾受過栽培，心裡火熱，能正確地講解和教導有關耶穌的事，但他只知道約翰的洗禮。

腓利斯原本對這道頗有認識，於是下令休庭，說：「等呂西亞千夫長抵達後，我再斷你們的案子。」

他來這裡是得到祭司長的授權，要拘捕所有求告你名的人。」

我曾經把信奉這道的男女信徒抓進監獄，迫害他們，置他們於死地。大祭司和眾長老都可以為我作證。我還拿著他們寫給大馬士革的猶太人的信去拘捕那裡的信徒，押回耶路撒冷受刑。

「那時，我帶著祭司長的授權和委託去大馬士革。

哈曼對亞哈隨魯王說：「有一個民族散居在王境內各省的眾民族中，他們的律例與各族的律例不同，他們不遵守王的律例，所以容忍他們對王不利。王若願意，就請降旨消滅他們。我願捐三百四十五噸銀子交給管理國事的人，納入王的庫房。」於是，王摘下手上的戒指，交給猶太人的仇敵——亞甲人哈米大他的兒子哈曼，對他說：「這些銀子歸你，這個民族也交給你，隨你處置。」一月十三日，王的書記被召來，他們以亞哈隨魯王的名義，照哈曼的吩咐，用各省的文字和各族的語言寫諭旨，用王的戒指蓋印，送交各總督、各省省長和各族首領。諭旨由信差送到王的各省，限令在一天之內，即十二月，也就是亞達月十三日，把猶太人的男女老少全部剷除、殺光、滅盡，並奪取他們的財物。

但有些來自古利奈、亞歷山大、基利迦和亞細亞、屬於「自由人會堂」的猶太人聯合起來與司提凡辯論。

說：「你們不秉公行義，偏袒惡人要到何時呢？（細拉）你們要為窮人和孤兒主持公道，為貧寒和受壓迫的人伸張正義。要救助窮苦的人，使他們脫離惡人的欺壓。

他用毒計苦害我們的同胞，虐待我們的祖先，強令他們把嬰孩拋棄，不讓嬰孩存活。

三天後，保羅請來當地猶太人的首領，對他們說：「弟兄們，雖然我沒有做過任何對不起同胞或違背祖先規矩的事，卻在耶路撒冷遭囚禁，又被交到羅馬人的手裡。羅馬官員審訊了我，發現我沒有什麼該死的罪，想釋放我，猶太人卻反對，我不得已只好上訴凱撒。我並非有什麼事要控告自己的同胞。為此，我才請你們來當面談，我受捆綁是為了以色列人所盼望的那位。」他們說：「猶太境內的同胞沒有給我們寫信提及你的事，也沒有弟兄到這裡說你的壞話。不過，我們倒很想聽聽你的觀點，因為我們知道你們這一派的人到處受人抨擊。」

他們由別加繼續前行，來到彼西底區的安提阿。在安息日那天，他們進了會堂坐下來。讀完律法書和先知書後，會堂主管派人告訴他們：「弟兄們，如果你們有什麼勸勉眾人的話，請講。」
