他在主的道上曾受过栽培，心里火热，能正确地讲解和教导有关耶稣的事，但他只知道约翰的洗礼。

腓利斯原本对这道颇有认识，于是下令休庭，说：“等吕西亚千夫长抵达后，我再断你们的案子。”

他来这里是得到祭司长的授权，要拘捕所有求告你名的人。”

我曾经把信奉这道的男女信徒抓进监狱，迫害他们，置他们于死地。大祭司和众长老都可以为我作证。我还拿着他们写给大马士革的犹太人的信去拘捕那里的信徒，押回耶路撒冷受刑。

“那时，我带着祭司长的授权和委托去大马士革。

哈曼对亚哈随鲁王说：“有一个民族散居在王境内各省的众民族中，他们的律例与各族的律例不同，他们不遵守王的律例，所以容忍他们对王不利。王若愿意，就请降旨消灭他们。我愿捐三百四十五吨银子交给管理国事的人，纳入王的库房。”于是，王摘下手上的戒指，交给犹太人的仇敌——亚甲人哈米大他的儿子哈曼，对他说：“这些银子归你，这个民族也交给你，随你处置。”一月十三日，王的书记被召来，他们以亚哈随鲁王的名义，照哈曼的吩咐，用各省的文字和各族的语言写谕旨，用王的戒指盖印，送交各总督、各省省长和各族首领。谕旨由信差送到王的各省，限令在一天之内，即十二月，也就是亚达月十三日，把犹太人的男女老少全部铲除、杀光、灭尽，并夺取他们的财物。

但有些来自古利奈、亚历山大、基利迦和亚细亚、属于“自由人会堂”的犹太人联合起来与司提凡辩论。

说：“你们不秉公行义，偏袒恶人要到何时呢？（细拉）你们要为穷人和孤儿主持公道，为贫寒和受压迫的人伸张正义。要救助穷苦的人，使他们脱离恶人的欺压。

他用毒计苦害我们的同胞，虐待我们的祖先，强令他们把婴孩抛弃，不让婴孩存活。

三天后，保罗请来当地犹太人的首领，对他们说：“弟兄们，虽然我没有做过任何对不起同胞或违背祖先规矩的事，却在耶路撒冷遭囚禁，又被交到罗马人的手里。罗马官员审讯了我，发现我没有什么该死的罪，想释放我，犹太人却反对，我不得已只好上诉凯撒。我并非有什么事要控告自己的同胞。为此，我才请你们来当面谈，我受捆绑是为了以色列人所盼望的那位。”他们说：“犹太境内的同胞没有给我们写信提及你的事，也没有弟兄到这里说你的坏话。不过，我们倒很想听听你的观点，因为我们知道你们这一派的人到处受人抨击。”

他们由别加继续前行，来到彼西底区的安提阿。在安息日那天，他们进了会堂坐下来。读完律法书和先知书后，会堂主管派人告诉他们：“弟兄们，如果你们有什么劝勉众人的话，请讲。”
