But the Lord said to Ananias,“ Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel.

But when the one who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace was pleasedto reveal his Son in me so that I could preach him among the Gentiles, I did not go to ask advice from any human being,

I became a servant of this gospel according to the gift of God’s grace that was given to me by the exercise of his power.To me– less than the least of all the saints– this grace was given, to proclaim to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ

At my first defense no one appeared in my support; instead they all deserted me– may they not be held accountable for it.But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message would be fully proclaimed for all the Gentiles to hear. And so I was delivered from the lion’s mouth!

Through him we have received grace and our apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles on behalf of his name.

“ Before I formed you in your mother’s womb I chose you. Before you were born I set you apart. I appointed you to be a prophet to the nations.”

Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Seeing that I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry,

For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle– I am telling the truth; I am not lying– and a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

From Paul, an apostle( not from men, nor by human agency, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead)

I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending youto open their eyes so that they turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a share among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’“ Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,but I declared to those in Damascus first, and then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds consistent with repentance.

While they were serving the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,“ Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

They will make war with the Lamb, but the Lamb will conquer them, because he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those accompanying the Lamb are the called, chosen, and faithful.”

Then he said to me,‘ Go, because I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’”

And you will be brought before governors and kings because of me, as a witness to them and the Gentiles.

But I have written more boldly to you on some points so as to remind you, because of the grace given to me by Godto be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. I serve the gospel of God like a priest, so that the Gentiles may become an acceptable offering, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.So I boast in Christ Jesus about the things that pertain to God.For I will not dare to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in order to bring about the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed,in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem even as far as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.And in this way I desire to preach where Christ has not been named, so as not to build on another person’s foundation,but as it is written:“ Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.”

Has the potter no right to make from the same lump of clay one vessel for special use and another for ordinary use?But what if God, willing to demonstrate his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience the objects of wrath prepared for destruction?And what if he is willing to make known the wealth of his glory on the objects of mercy that he has prepared beforehand for glory–even us, whom he has called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?

On the contrary, when they saw that I was entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcised just as Peter was to the circumcised( for he who empowered Peter for his apostleship to the circumcised also empowered me for my apostleship to the Gentiles)and when James, Cephas, and John, who had a reputation as pillars, recognized the grace that had been given to me, they gave to Barnabas and me the right hand of fellowship, agreeing that we would go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.

No one in military service gets entangled in matters of everyday life; otherwise he will not please the one who recruited him.

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that remains, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been in vain. In fact, I worked harder than all of them– yet not I, but the grace of God with me.

So now go, and I will be with your mouth and will teach you what you must say.”But Moses said,“ O my Lord, please send anyone else whom you wish to send!”Then the LORD became angry with Moses, and he said,“ What about your brother Aaron the Levite? I know that he can speak very well. Moreover, he is coming to meet you, and when he sees you he will be glad in his heart.

I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that I often intended to come to you( and was prevented until now), so that I may have some fruit even among you, just as I already have among the rest of the Gentiles.I am a debtor both to the Greeks and to the barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.Thus I am eager also to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome.

Agrippa said to Festus,“ This man could have been released if he had not appealed to Caesar.”

Now in a wealthy home there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also ones made of wood and of clay, and some are for honorable use, but others for ignoble use.So if someone cleanses himself of such behavior, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart, useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.

The LORD said to me,“ Do not say,‘ I am too young.’ But go to whomever I send you and say whatever I tell you.

Agrippa said to Festus,“ I would also like to hear the man myself.”“ Tomorrow,” he replied,“ you will hear him.”So the next day Agrippa and Bernice came with great pomp and entered the audience hall, along with the senior military officers and the prominent men of the city. When Festus gave the order, Paul was brought in.Then Festus said,“ King Agrippa, and all you who are present here with us, you see this man about whom the entire Jewish populace petitioned me both in Jerusalem and here, shouting loudly that he ought not to live any longer.But I found that he had done nothing that deserved death, and when he appealed to His Majesty the Emperor, I decided to send him.But I have nothing definite to write to my lord about him. Therefore I have brought him before you all, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that after this preliminary hearing I may have something to write.For it seems unreasonable to me to send a prisoner without clearly indicating the charges against him.”So Agrippa said to Paul,“ You have permission to speak for yourself.” Then Paul held out his hand and began his defense:“ Regarding all the things I have been accused of by the Jews, King Agrippa, I consider myself fortunate that I am about to make my defense before you today,because you are especially familiar with all the customs and controversial issues of the Jews. Therefore I ask you to listen to me patiently.Now all the Jews know the way I lived from my youth, spending my life from the beginning among my own people and in Jerusalem.They know, because they have known me from time past, if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest party of our religion, I lived as a Pharisee.And now I stand here on trial because of my hope in the promise made by God to our ancestors,a promise that our twelve tribes hope to attain as they earnestly serve God night and day. Concerning this hope the Jews are accusing me, Your Majesty!Why do you people think it is unbelievable that God raises the dead?Of course, I myself was convinced that it was necessary to do many things hostile to the name of Jesus the Nazarene.And that is what I did in Jerusalem: Not only did I lock up many of the saints in prisons by the authority I received from the chief priests, but I also cast my vote against them when they were sentenced to death.I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to force them to blaspheme. Because I was so furiously enraged at them, I went to persecute them even in foreign cities.

When Paul had greeted them, he began to explain in detail what God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.

For this gospel I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher.

After three days Paul called the local Jewish leaders together. When they had assembled, he said to them,“ Brothers, although I had done nothing against our people or the customs of our ancestors, from Jerusalem I was handed over as a prisoner to the Romans.When they had heard my case, they wanted to release me, because there was no basis for a death sentence against me.But when the Jews objected, I was forced to appeal to Caesar– not that I had some charge to bring against my own people.So for this reason I have asked to see you and speak with you, for I am bound with this chain because of the hope of Israel.”They replied,“ We have received no letters from Judea about you, nor have any of the brothers come from there and reported or said anything bad about you.But we would like to hear from you what you think, for regarding this sect we know that people everywhere speak against it.”They set a day to meet with him, and they came to him where he was staying in even greater numbers. From morning until evening he explained things to them, testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus from both the law of Moses and the prophets.Some were convinced by what he said, but others refused to believe.So they began to leave, unable to agree among themselves, after Paul made one last statement:“ The Holy Spirit spoke rightly to your ancestors through the prophet Isaiahwhen he said,‘ Go to this people and say,“ You will keep on hearing, but will never understand, and you will keep on looking, but will never perceive.For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and they have closed their eyes, so that they would not see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.”’“ Therefore be advised that this salvation from God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen!”From Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God.

and said,‘ Do not be afraid, Paul! You must stand before Caesar, and God has graciously granted you the safety of all who are sailing with you.’

The LORD said to Jonah a second time,“ Go immediately to Nineveh, that large city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you.”

I became a servant of the church according to the stewardship from God– given to me for you– in order to complete the word of God,that is, the mystery that has been kept hidden from ages and generations, but has now been revealed to his saints.God wanted to make known to them the glorious riches of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.We proclaim him by instructing and teaching all people with all wisdom so that we may present every person mature in Christ.Toward this goal I also labor, struggling according to his power that powerfully works in me.
