But the Lord said to Ananias,“ Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel.

But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace,was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with anyone;

Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God’s grace, which was given me by the working of his power.To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them!But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth.

through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations,

“ Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry

For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle( I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

Paul, an apostle— not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead—

delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles— to whom I am sending youto open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’“ Therefore, O King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,but declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance.

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,“ Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.”

And he said to me,‘ Go, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’”

and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles.

But on some points I have written to you very boldly by way of reminder, because of the grace given me by Godto be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles may be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.In Christ Jesus, then, I have reason to be proud of my work for God.For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to bring the Gentiles to obedience— by word and deed,by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God— so that from Jerusalem and all the way around to Illyricum I have fulfilled the ministry of the gospel of Christ;and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else’s foundation,but as it is written,“ Those who have never been told of him will see, and those who have never heard will understand.”

Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use?What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory—even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles?

On the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been entrusted with the gospel to the circumcised( for he who worked through Peter for his apostolic ministry to the circumcised worked also through me for mine to the Gentiles),and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.

No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.

Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.”But he said,“ Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.”Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses and he said,“ Is there not Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Behold, he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.

I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you( but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles.I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

And Agrippa said to Festus,“ This man could have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar.”

Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable.Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.

But the Lord said to me,“ Do not say,‘ I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.

Then Agrippa said to Festus,“ I would like to hear the man myself.”“ Tomorrow,” said he,“ you will hear him.”So on the next day Agrippa and Bernice came with great pomp, and they entered the audience hall with the military tribunes and the prominent men of the city. Then, at the command of Festus, Paul was brought in.And Festus said,“ King Agrippa and all who are present with us, you see this man about whom the whole Jewish people petitioned me, both in Jerusalem and here, shouting that he ought not to live any longer.But I found that he had done nothing deserving death. And as he himself appealed to the emperor, I decided to go ahead and send him.But I have nothing definite to write to my lord about him. Therefore I have brought him before you all, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that, after we have examined him, I may have something to write.For it seems to me unreasonable, in sending a prisoner, not to indicate the charges against him.”So Agrippa said to Paul,“ You have permission to speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand and made his defense:“ I consider myself fortunate that it is before you, King Agrippa, I am going to make my defense today against all the accusations of the Jews,especially because you are familiar with all the customs and controversies of the Jews. Therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently.“ My manner of life from my youth, spent from the beginning among my own nation and in Jerusalem, is known by all the Jews.They have known for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest party of our religion I have lived as a Pharisee.And now I stand here on trial because of my hope in the promise made by God to our fathers,to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly worship night and day. And for this hope I am accused by Jews, O king!Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead?“ I myself was convinced that I ought to do many things in opposing the name of Jesus of Nazareth.And I did so in Jerusalem. I not only locked up many of the saints in prison after receiving authority from the chief priests, but when they were put to death I cast my vote against them.And I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them blaspheme, and in raging fury against them I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

After greeting them, he related one by one the things that God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.

for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher,

After three days he called together the local leaders of the Jews, and when they had gathered, he said to them,“ Brothers, though I had done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.When they had examined me, they wished to set me at liberty, because there was no reason for the death penalty in my case.But because the Jews objected, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar— though I had no charge to bring against my nation.For this reason, therefore, I have asked to see you and speak with you, since it is because of the hope of Israel that I am wearing this chain.”And they said to him,“ We have received no letters from Judea about you, and none of the brothers coming here has reported or spoken any evil about you.But we desire to hear from you what your views are, for with regard to this sect we know that everywhere it is spoken against.”When they had appointed a day for him, they came to him at his lodging in greater numbers. From morning till evening he expounded to them, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus both from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets.And some were convinced by what he said, but others disbelieved.And disagreeing among themselves, they departed after Paul had made one statement:“ The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:“‘ Go to this people, and say,“ You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive.”For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.’Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen.”Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,

and he said,‘ Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And behold, God has granted you all those who sail with you.’

Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying,“ Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it the message that I tell you.”

of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known,the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints.To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.
