But Paul became greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit,“ I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” And it came out of her at once.

When the magicians attempted to bring forth gnats by their secret arts, they could not. So there were gnats on people and on animals.The magicians said to Pharaoh,“ It is the finger of God!” But Pharaoh’s heart remained hard, and he did not listen to them, just as the LORD had predicted.

And they paid close attention to him because he had amazed them for a long time with his magic.

There must never be found among you anyone who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, anyone who practices divination, an omen reader, a soothsayer, a sorcerer,one who casts spells, one who conjures up spirits, a practitioner of the occult, or a necromancer.Whoever does these things is abhorrent to the LORD and because of these detestable things the LORD your God is about to drive them out from before you.

They will maintain the outward appearance of religion but will have repudiated its power. So avoid people like these.

Many of those who had believed came forward, confessing and making their deeds known.Large numbers of those who had practiced magic collected their books and burned them up in the presence of everyone. When the value of the books was added up, it was found to total fifty thousand silver coins.In this way the word of the Lord continued to grow in power and to prevail.

And just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these people– who have warped minds and are disqualified in the faith– also oppose the truth.But they will not go much further, for their foolishness will be obvious to everyone, just like it was with Jannes and Jambres.

He opposes and exalts himself above every so- called god or object of worship, and as a result he takes his seat in God’s temple, displaying himself as God.

He performed momentous signs, even making fire come down from heaven in front of peopleand, by the signs he was permitted to perform on behalf of the beast, he deceived those who live on the earth. He told those who live on the earth to make an image to the beast who had been wounded by the sword, but still lived.

But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts, and so Pharaoh’s heart remained hard, and he refused to listen to Moses and Aaron– just as the LORD had predicted.

“‘ The person who turns to the spirits of the dead and familiar spirits to commit prostitution by going after them, I will set my face against that person and cut him off from the midst of his people.

The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for boils were on the magicians and on all the Egyptians.

Then Pharaoh also summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the magicians of Egypt by their secret arts did the same thing.

Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the sexually immoral, and the murderers, and the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood!

For by speaking high- sounding but empty words they are able to entice, with fleshly desires and with debauchery, people who have just escaped from those who reside in error.
