and they summoned the apostles and had them beaten. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them.

Now when they heard this, they became furious and wanted to execute them.

For this reason also the wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’so that this generation may be held accountable for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world,

The rest seized his slaves, insolently mistreated them, and killed them.

Now those who had been scattered because of the persecution that took place over Stephen went as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the message to no one but Jews.But there were some men from Cyprus and Cyrene among them who came to Antioch and began to speak to the Greeks too, proclaiming the good news of the Lord Jesus.The hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed turned to the Lord.A report about them came to the attention of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to King Nebuchadnezzar,“ We do not need to give you a reply concerning this.If our God whom we are serving exists, he is able to rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire, and he will rescue us, O king, from your power as well.But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we don’t serve your gods, and we will not pay homage to the golden statue that you have erected.”

Pharaoh said to him,“ Go from me! Watch out for yourself! Do not appear before me again, for when you see my face you will die!”Moses said,“ As you wish! I will not see your face again.”

Now those who had been forced to scatter went around proclaiming the good news of the word.

Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria experienced peace and thus was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and in the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, the church increased in numbers.

Remember what I told you,‘ A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they obeyed my word, they will obey yours too.

Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them.

They will put you out of the synagogue, yet a time is coming when the one who kills you will think he is offering service to God.

Then the king was delighted and gave an order to haul Daniel up from the den. So Daniel was hauled up out of the den. He had no injury of any kind, because he had trusted in his God.

“ You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its flavor, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled on by people.

When Daniel realized that a written decree had been issued, he entered his home, where the windows in his upper room opened toward Jerusalem. Three times daily he was kneeling and offering prayers and thanks to his God just as he had been accustomed to do previously.

Now many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the report of the woman who testified,“ He told me everything I ever did.”So when the Samaritans came to him, they began asking him to stay with them. He stayed there two days,and because of his word many more believed.They said to the woman,“ No longer do we believe because of your words, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this one really is the Savior of the world.”

Now there were these prophets and teachers in the church at Antioch: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius the Cyrenian, Manaen( a close friend of Herod the tetrarch from childhood) and Saul.

I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that my situation has actually turned out to advance the gospel:

“ Go and stand in the temple courts and proclaim to the people all the words of this life.”

So I sent messengers to them saying,“ I am engaged in an important work, and I am unable to come down. Why should the work come to a halt when I leave it to come down to you?”

By faith he left Egypt without fearing the king’s anger, for he persevered as though he could see the one who is invisible.

“ For this reason I am sending you prophets and wise men and experts in the law, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town,

They laid hands on the apostles and put them in a public jail.

This is the man who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors, and he received living oracles to give to you.

It is enough for the disciple to become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house‘ Beelzebul,’ how much more will they defame the members of his household!“ Do not be afraid of them, for nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing is secret that will not be made known.What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light, and what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the housetops.Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the one who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

praising God and having the good will of all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number every day those who were being saved.

When they heard these things, they became furious and ground their teeth at him.
