Then he gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. And Abraham became the father of Isaac and circumcised him eight days after his birth. Later Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

Then God made a covenant with Abraham. God told him that circumcision would show who the members of the covenant were. Abraham became Isaac’s father. He circumcised Isaac eight days after he was born. Later, Isaac became Jacob’s father. Jacob had 12 sons. They became the founders of the 12 tribes of Israel.

And he gave him the covenant of circumcision. And so Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day, and Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs.

“ God also gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision at that time. So when Abraham became the father of Isaac, he circumcised him on the eighth day. And the practice was continued when Isaac became the father of Jacob, and when Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs of the Israelite nation.

And so he gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. After this, he fathered Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day. Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

And He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so Abraham fathered Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac fathered Jacob, and Jacob, the twelve patriarchs.

And God said unto Abraham, And as for thee, thou shalt keep my covenant, thou, and thy seed after thee throughout their generations.This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee: every male among you shall be circumcised.And ye shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of a covenant betwixt me and you.And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any foreigner that is not of thy seed.He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.And the uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

The sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacob’s first- born, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun;the sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin;and the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid: Dan and Naphtali;and the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid: Gad and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, that were born to him in Paddan- aram.

And they journeyed from Beth- el; and there was still some distance to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labor.

Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day.

For this is a word of promise, According to this season will I come, and Sarah shall have a son.And not only so; but Rebecca also having conceived by one, even by our father Isaac—for the children being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth,it was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.Even as it is written, Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.

And Jehovah saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said, Because Jehovah hath looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.And she conceived again, and bare a son: and said, Because Jehovah hath heard that I am hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon.And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have borne him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, This time will I praise Jehovah: therefore she called his name Judah; and she left off bearing.And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and she said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.And Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God’s stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?And she said, Behold, my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; that she may bear upon my knees, and I also may obtain children by her.And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her.And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son.And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan.And Bilhah Rachel’s handmaid conceived again, and bare Jacob a second son.And Rachel said, With mighty wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali.When Leah saw that she had left off bearing, she took Zilpah her handmaid, and gave her to Jacob to wife.And Zilpah Leah’s handmaid bare Jacob a son.And Leah said, Fortunate! and she called his name Gad.And Zilpah Leah’s handmaid bare Jacob a second son.And Leah said, Happy am I! for the daughters will call me happy: and she called his name Asher.And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son’s mandrakes.And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken away my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son’s mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to- night for thy son’s mandrakes.And Jacob came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for I have surely hired thee with my son’s mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob a fifth son.And Leah said, God hath given me my hire, because I gave my handmaid to my husband: and she called his name Issachar.And Leah conceived again, and bare a sixth son to Jacob.And Leah said, God hath endowed me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun.And afterwards she bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah.And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.And she conceived, and bare a son: and said, God hath taken away my reproach:and she called his name Joseph, saying, Jehovah add to me another son.

And Jehovah visited Sarah as he had said, and Jehovah did unto Sarah as he had spoken.And Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

And Abraham begat Isaac. The sons of Isaac: Esau, and Israel.

And Isaac entreated Jehovah for his wife, because she was barren: and Jehovah was entreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.And the children struggled together within her: and she said, If it be so, wherefore do I live? And she went to inquire of Jehovah.And Jehovah said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, And two peoples shall be separated from thy bowels: And the one people shall be stronger than the other people; And the elder shall serve the younger.And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.And the first came forth red, all over like a hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.And after that came forth his brother, and his hand had hold on Esau’s heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.

How then was it reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision:

Brethren, I speak after the manner of men: Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet when it hath been confirmed, no one maketh it void, or addeth thereto.

Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judah and his brethren;

Now consider how great this man was, unto whom Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth out of the chief spoils.

And it came to pass, as her soul was departing( for she died), that she called his name Ben- oni: but his father called him Benjamin.

Moses hath given you circumcision( not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers); and on the sabbath ye circumcise a man.

Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt( every man and his household came with Jacob):Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher.

These are the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun,Dan, Joseph, and Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

Now this I say: A covenant confirmed beforehand by God, the law, which came four hundred and thirty years after, doth not disannul, so as to make the promise of none effect.
