He gave him no inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on. He promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his offspring after him, when he still had no child.

是時天主未嘗在此地賜之以業、即立足之地、亦未賜之、惟許以此地賜彼及其子孫為業、時亞伯拉罕尚未有子也、

然未嘗畀之為業、抑且身無立錐之地、惟有以此賜彼及其後裔為業之許諾。而亞伯漢當時固未有後也。

He gave him no inheritance here, not even enough ground to set his foot on. But God promised him that he and his descendants after him would possess the land, even though at that time Abraham had no child.

God didn’t give him any property here. He didn’t even give him enough land to set his foot on. But God made a promise to him and to all his family after him. He said they would possess the land. The promise was made even though at that time Abraham had no child.

Yet he gave him no inheritance in it, not even a foot’s length, but promised to give it to him as a possession and to his offspring after him, though he had no child.

“ But God gave him no inheritance here, not even one square foot of land. God did promise, however, that eventually the whole land would belong to Abraham and his descendants— even though he had no children yet.

Yahweh appeared to Abram and said,“ I will give this land to your offspring.” He built an altar there to Yahweh, who had appeared to him.

for I will give all the land which you see to you and to your offspring forever.

In that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram, saying,“ I have given this land to your offspring, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:

Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For I will give to you, and to your offspring, all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.

found his heart faithful before you, and made a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, and the Girgashite, to give it to his offspring, and have performed your words; for you are righteous.

Yahweh said to him,“ This is the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying,‘ I will give it to your offspring.’ I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.”

“ I am a stranger and a foreigner living with you. Give me a possession of a burying- place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”

Behold, Yahweh stood above it, and said,“ I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. I will give the land you lie on to you and to your offspring.Your offspring will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your offspring, all the families of the earth will be blessed.Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”

Not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart do you go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations Yahweh your God does drive them out from before you, and that he may establish the word which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

and that you may prolong your days in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give to them and to their offspring, a land flowing with milk and honey.

By faith, he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.For he looked for the city which has the foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

I will take you to myself for a people. I will be your God; and you shall know that I am Yahweh your God, who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it to you for a heritage: I am Yahweh.’”

It shall be, when Yahweh your God brings you into the land which he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you, great and goodly cities which you didn’t build,and houses full of all good things which you didn’t fill, and cisterns dug out which you didn’t dig, vineyards and olive trees which you didn’t plant, and you shall eat and be full;

I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. Yes, I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her.”Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his heart,“ Will a child be born to him who is one hundred years old? Will Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?”Abraham said to God,“ Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”God said,“ No, but Sarah, your wife, will bear you a son. You shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.

Yahweh said to me,“ Arise, take your journey before the people; and they shall go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give to them.”

Don’t contend with them; for I will not give you any of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession.

He has remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,the covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac,and confirmed it to Jacob for a statute; to Israel for an everlasting covenant,saying,“ To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance,”when they were but a few men in number, yes, very few, and foreigners in it.

Sarai said to Abram,“ See now, Yahweh has restrained me from bearing. Please go in to my servant. It may be that I will obtain children by her.” Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.

Abram said,“ Lord Yahweh, what will you give me, since I go childless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?”Abram said,“ Behold, you have given no children to me: and, behold, one born in my house is my heir.”Behold, Yahweh’s word came to him, saying,“ This man will not be your heir, but he who will come out of your own body will be your heir.”Yahweh brought him outside, and said,“ Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” He said to Abram,“ So your offspring will be.”

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and embraced them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own.If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return.But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
