Then the whole congregation of the people of Israel assembled at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there. The land lay subdued before them.

And after destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance.

For the Lord has driven out before you great and strong nations. And as for you, no man has been able to stand before you to this day.

And the Lord drove out before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land. Therefore we also will serve the Lord, for he is our God.”

David built houses for himself in the city of David. And he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.Then David said that no one but the Levites may carry the ark of God, for the Lord had chosen them to carry the ark of the Lord and to minister to him forever.And David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the Lord to its place, which he had prepared for it.And David gathered together the sons of Aaron and the Levites:of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, with 120 of his brothers;of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, with 220 of his brothers;of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, with 130 of his brothers;of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, with 200 of his brothers;of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, with 80 of his brothers;of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, with 112 of his brothers.Then David summoned the priests Zadok and Abiathar, and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab,and said to them,“ You are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites. Consecrate yourselves, you and your brothers, so that you may bring up the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to the place that I have prepared for it.Because you did not carry it the first time, the Lord our God broke out against us, because we did not seek him according to the rule.”So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord, the God of Israel.And the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles, as Moses had commanded according to the word of the Lord.David also commanded the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their brothers as the singers who should play loudly on musical instruments, on harps and lyres and cymbals, to raise sounds of joy.So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brothers Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari, their brothers, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;

David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale-judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the Lord of hosts who sits enthroned on the cherubim.And they carried the ark of God on a new cart and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. And Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart,with the ark of God, and Ahio went before the ark.And David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the Lord, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals.And when they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled.And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and God struck him down there because of his error, and he died there beside the ark of God.And David was angry because the Lord had broken out against Uzzah. And that place is called Perez-uzzah to this day.And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said,“ How can the ark of the Lord come to me?”So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord into the city of David. But David took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.And the ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and all his household.And it was told King David,“ The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with rejoicing.And when those who bore the ark of the Lord had gone six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened animal.And David danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod.So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn.As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart.And they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it. And David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hostsand distributed among all the people, the whole multitude of Israel, both men and women, a cake of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins to each one. Then all the people departed, each to his house.And David returned to bless his household. But Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said,“ How the king of Israel honored himself today, uncovering himself today before the eyes of his servants’ female servants, as one of the vulgar fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!”And David said to Michal,“ It was before the Lord, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me as prince over Israel, the people of the Lord— and I will celebrate before the Lord.I will make myself yet more contemptible than this, and I will be abased in your eyes. But by the female servants of whom you have spoken, by them I shall be held in honor.”And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.

And he left Zadok the priest and his brothers the priests before the tabernacle of the Lord in the high place that was at Gibeon

And they brought up the ark of the Lord, the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the priests and the Levites brought them up.

He drove out nations before them; he apportioned them for a possession and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.

For the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses had made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering were at that time in the high place at Gibeon,

So the people sent to Shiloh and brought from there the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, who is enthroned on the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

And Joshua said to the priests,“ Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on before the people.” So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people.The Lord said to Joshua,“ Today I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.

So the descendants went in and possessed the land, and you subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gave them into their hand, with their kings and the peoples of the land, that they might do with them as they would.

“ Go up this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, opposite Jericho, and view the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the people of Israel for a possession.

For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on.

Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is passing over before you into the Jordan.Now therefore take twelve men from the tribes of Israel, from each tribe a man.And when the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off from flowing, and the waters coming down from above shall stand in one heap.”So when the people set out from their tents to pass over the Jordan with the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people,and as soon as those bearing the ark had come as far as the Jordan, and the feet of the priests bearing the ark were dipped in the brink of the water( now the Jordan overflows all its banks throughout the time of harvest),the waters coming down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far away, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, and those flowing down toward the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. And the people passed over opposite Jericho.Now the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firmly on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan, and all Israel was passing over on dry ground until all the nation finished passing over the Jordan.

So they set up Micah’s carved image that he made, as long as the house of God was at Shiloh.
