神就转身不顾，任凭他们去事奉天上的万象，正如先知书上所记载的：‘以色列家呀！你们在旷野的四十年里献上的牺牲和祭物，难道是给我的吗？

天主乃棄置之、任彼奉事天上之日月星辰、此正如先知書所記曰：嗚呼義塞之家室、率彼曠野四十春。何曾貢我以祭品、何曾獻我以犧牲。

因此，神任凭他们顺着心中的情欲去做污秽的事，以致彼此玷污自己的身体。他们用虚假取代神的真理，去崇拜、事奉被造之物，而不事奉造物之主——主是当受颂赞的，直到永远！阿们。为此，神任凭他们陷入可耻的情欲，连他们的女人也把天性的功用变为违反天性的；同样，男人也放弃了女人天性的功用，彼此之间欲火中烧，男人与男人做出羞耻的事，就在自己身上受到他们的妄为所应得的报应。既然人不愿意真正认识神，神就任凭他们存败坏的理性，去做那些不该做的事。

然而我的子民不听我的声音，以色列不愿意顺从我。我就任凭他们心里顽固，随自己的计谋而行。

然而他们悖逆，使他的圣灵忧伤；他就转成他们的仇敌，亲自与他们争战。

因此，我要选择折磨他们的事，使他们所恐惧的临到他们。因为我呼唤，没有人回应；我说话，他们不听从；他们做我眼中看为恶的事，选择我所不喜悦的事。”

经上说：“今天，你们如果听见他的声音，就不可硬着你们的心，如同在那悖逆的时候。”到底是谁听见却悖逆了呢？难道不是被摩西从埃及带领出来的那一切人吗？神又向谁发怒了四十年之久呢？难道不是那些犯了罪、尸首倒在旷野的人吗？

四十年之久，我厌恶了那世代，我说：‘他们是心里迷失的子民，他们不认识我的道路。’

在那里，你们的祖先考验我、试探我，并且看了我的作为四十年之久。

这个人带领以色列子民出来，在埃及地、在红海，并且在旷野的四十年间，行了奇事和神迹。

你没有带给我燔祭用的羊，也没有用你的祭物来荣耀我！不过我却没有让你因供物有重负，也没有让你因乳香而厌倦。

并且使用一切不义的诡计，因为他们不接受那能使他们得救的真理之爱。为此，神就把一种迷惑人的力量送进他们里面，使他们相信虚假之事，好使所有不相信真理而喜悦不义的人，都被定罪。
