「可是我們的祖先不聽從他，甚至棄絕他，心裡對埃及戀戀不捨。

我們的祖先不肯聽從他，反而把他推開，他們的心已經轉向了埃及，

我們的祖宗不肯聽從他，倒給推開了，心裏轉向着埃及，

我們的祖先不肯順從，反而棄絕了他，甚至在心裡轉回埃及去，

我列祖弗順而拒之、意欲返埃及、

列祖不順而拒之、欲反埃及、

我列祖弗順從、反拒之、心中欲返伊及、

詎知我列祖非惟不願聽從、反加以背棄、而其心且戀念埃及不置。

“ But our ancestors refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

“ But our people refused to obey Moses. They would not accept him. In their hearts, they wished they were back in Egypt.

Our fathers refused to obey him, but thrust him aside, and in their hearts they turned to Egypt,

“ But our ancestors refused to listen to Moses. They rejected him and wanted to return to Egypt.

Our ancestors were unwilling to obey him. Instead, they pushed him aside, and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

Our fathers were unwilling to be obedient to him; on the contrary they rejected him and turned back to Egypt in their hearts,

to whom our fathers would not be obedient, but thrust him from them, and turned back in their hearts unto Egypt,

Our ancestors were unwilling to obey him, but pushed him away, and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust[ him] from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

Why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?”So they said to one another,“ Let us select a leader and return to Egypt.”

We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic;

And the children of Israel said to them,“ Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”

And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said,“ Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”

Gilead’s wife bore sons; and when his wife’s sons grew up, they drove Jephthah out, and said to him,“ You shall have no inheritance in our father’s house, for you are the son of another woman.”

Then they said to Moses,“ Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt?Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying,‘ Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.”

“ But they and our fathers acted proudly, Hardened their necks, And did not heed Your commandments.They refused to obey, And they were not mindful of Your wonders That You did among them. But they hardened their necks, And in their rebellion They appointed a leader To return to their bondage. But You are God, Ready to pardon, Gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, Abundant in kindness, And did not forsake them.

So Solomon removed Abiathar from being priest to the Lord, that he might fulfill the word of the Lord which He spoke concerning the house of Eli at Shiloh.

They angered Him also at the waters of strife, So that it went ill with Moses on account of them;Because they rebelled against His Spirit, So that he spoke rashly with his lips.

And the people spoke against God and against Moses:“ Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and our soul loathes this worthless bread.”

“ You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,

On that day I raised My hand in an oath to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them,‘ flowing with milk and honey,’ the glory of all lands.Then I said to them,‘ Each of you, throw away the abominations which are before his eyes, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.’But they rebelled against Me and would not obey Me. They did not all cast away the abominations which were before their eyes, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said,‘ I will pour out My fury on them and fulfill My anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.’But I acted for My name’s sake, that it should not be profaned before the Gentiles among whom they were, in whose sight I had made Myself known to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt.“ Therefore I made them go out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.And I gave them My statutes and showed them My judgments,‘ which, if a man does, he shall live by them.’Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them.Yet the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness; they did not walk in My statutes; they despised My judgments,‘ which, if a man does, he shall live by them’; and they greatly defiled My Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out My fury on them in the wilderness, to consume them.But I acted for My name’s sake, that it should not be profaned before the Gentiles, in whose sight I had brought them out.

When they envied Moses in the camp, And Aaron the saint of the Lord,

But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying,‘ Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?
