Our ancestors were unwilling to obey him, but pushed him aside and turned back to Egypt in their hearts,

我們的祖宗不肯聽從，反棄絕他，心裏歸向埃及，

「可是我們的祖先不聽從他，甚至棄絕他，心裡對埃及戀戀不捨。

我們的祖先不肯聽從他，反而把他推開，他們的心已經轉向了埃及，

我們的祖宗不肯聽從他，倒給推開了，心裏轉向着埃及，

我們的祖先不肯順從，反而棄絕了他，甚至在心裡轉回埃及去，

我列祖弗順而拒之、意欲返埃及、

列祖不順而拒之、欲反埃及、

我列祖弗順從、反拒之、心中欲返伊及、

詎知我列祖非惟不願聽從、反加以背棄、而其心且戀念埃及不置。

“ But our ancestors refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

“ But our people refused to obey Moses. They would not accept him. In their hearts, they wished they were back in Egypt.

Our fathers refused to obey him, but thrust him aside, and in their hearts they turned to Egypt,

“ But our ancestors refused to listen to Moses. They rejected him and wanted to return to Egypt.

Our ancestors were unwilling to obey him. Instead, they pushed him aside, and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

Our fathers were unwilling to be obedient to him; on the contrary they rejected him and turned back to Egypt in their hearts,

whom our fathers would not obey, but rejected. And in their hearts they turned back to Egypt,

to whom our fathers would not be obedient, but thrust him from them, and turned back in their hearts unto Egypt,

Our ancestors were unwilling to obey him, but pushed him away, and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust[ him] from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

to whom our fathers wouldn’t be obedient, but rejected him, and turned back in their hearts to Egypt,

Why has the LORD brought us into this land only to be killed by the sword, that our wives and our children should become plunder? Wouldn’t it be better for us to return to Egypt?”So they said to one another,“ Let’s appoint a leader and return to Egypt.”

We remember the fish we used to eat freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic.

The Israelites said to them,“ If only we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread to the full, for you have brought us out into this desert to kill this whole assembly with hunger!”

But the people were very thirsty there for water, and they murmured against Moses and said,“ Why in the world did you bring us up out of Egypt– to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?”

Gilead’s wife also gave him sons. When his wife’s sons grew up, they made Jephthah leave and said to him,“ You are not going to inherit any of our father’s wealth, because you are another woman’s son.”

and they said to Moses,“ Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the desert? What in the world have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?Isn’t this what we told you in Egypt,‘ Leave us alone so that we can serve the Egyptians, because it is better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!’”

“ But they– our ancestors– behaved presumptuously; they rebelled and did not obey your commandments.They refused to obey and did not recall your miracles that you had performed among them. Instead, they rebelled and appointed a leader to return to their bondage in Egypt. But you are a God of forgiveness, merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and unfailing in your loyal love. You did not abandon them,

Solomon dismissed Abiathar from his position as priest of the LORD, fulfilling the decree of judgment the LORD made in Shiloh against the family of Eli.

They made him angry by the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered because of them,for they aroused his temper, and he spoke rashly.

And the people spoke against God and against Moses,“ Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness, for there is no bread or water, and we detest this worthless food.”

“ You stubborn people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are always resisting the Holy Spirit, like your ancestors did!Which of the prophets did your ancestors not persecute? They killed those who foretold long ago the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become!

On that day I swore to bring them out of the land of Egypt to a land which I had picked out for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most beautiful of all lands.I said to them,“ Each of you must get rid of the detestable idols you keep before you, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am the LORD your God.”But they rebelled against me, and refused to listen to me; no one got rid of their detestable idols, nor did they abandon the idols of Egypt. Then I decided to pour out my rage on them and fully vent my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.I acted for the sake of my reputation, so that I would not be profaned before the nations among whom they lived, before whom I revealed myself by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.“‘ So I brought them out of the land of Egypt and led them to the wilderness.I gave them my statutes and revealed my regulations to them. The one who carries them out will live by them!I also gave them my Sabbaths as a reminder of our relationship, so that they would know that I, the LORD, sanctify them.But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness; they did not follow my statutes and they rejected my regulations( the one who obeys them will live by them), and they utterly desecrated my Sabbaths. So I decided to pour out my rage on them in the wilderness and destroy them.I acted for the sake of my reputation, so that I would not be profaned before the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.

In the camp they resented Moses, and Aaron, the LORD’s holy priest.

But the man who was unfairly hurting his neighbor pushed Moses aside, saying,‘ Who made you a ruler and judge over us?
