I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groans and have come down to rescue them. Now go, for I am sending you back to Egypt.’

我民在伊及、我見其困苦、聞其歎息、故我降臨以救之、今爾來、我遣爾往伊及、

吾民在埃及備受酷虐、苦楚萬狀、余已目睹、並聞其呼籲與悲嗟之聲、故余乃降臨而振救之、使出於水火之中。來、余將遣汝仍返埃及。」

I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’

Then the Lord told him,“ I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering.So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey— the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live.Look! The cry of the people of Israel has reached me, and I have seen how harshly the Egyptians abuse them.Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.”

Even so, he pitied them in their distress and listened to their cries.

Years passed, and the king of Egypt died. But the Israelites continued to groan under their burden of slavery. They cried out for help, and their cry rose up to God.God heard their groaning, and he remembered his covenant promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.He looked down on the people of Israel and knew it was time to act.

For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will.

God replied to Moses,“ I Am Who I Am. Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you.”

“ You saw the misery of our ancestors in Egypt, and you heard their cries from beside the Red Sea.

I am going down to see if their actions are as wicked as I have heard. If not, I want to know.”

No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven.

Then the people of Israel were convinced that the Lord had sent Moses and Aaron. When they heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.

But the Lord came down to look at the city and the tower the people were building.

Whenever the Lord raised up a judge over Israel, he was with that judge and rescued the people from their enemies throughout the judge’s lifetime. For the Lord took pity on his people, who were burdened by oppression and suffering.

He said,“ They are my very own people. Surely they will not betray me again.” And he became their Savior.In all their suffering he also suffered, and he personally rescued them. In his love and mercy he redeemed them. He lifted them up and carried them through all the years.

For I brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from slavery. I sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam to help you.

But the Israelites pleaded with the Lord and said,“ We have sinned. Punish us as you see fit, only rescue us today from our enemies.”Then the Israelites put aside their foreign gods and served the Lord. And he was grieved by their misery.

You can be sure that I have heard the groans of the people of Israel, who are now slaves to the Egyptians. And I am well aware of my covenant with them.“ Therefore, say to the people of Israel:‘ I am the Lord. I will free you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgment.

But the Lord sent his servant Moses, along with Aaron, whom he had chosen.

Then by a prophet the Lord brought Jacob’s descendants out of Egypt; and by that prophet they were protected.

Open the heavens, Lord, and come down. Touch the mountains so they billow smoke.

Oh, that you would burst from the heavens and come down! How the mountains would quake in your presence!

I will come down and talk to you there. I will take some of the Spirit that is upon you, and I will put the Spirit upon them also. They will bear the burden of the people along with you, so you will not have to carry it alone.

Come, let’s go down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won’t be able to understand each other.”
