“ Forty years passed. Then an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush. This happened in the desert near Mount Sinai.

“ Now when forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.

“ Forty years later, in the desert near Mount Sinai, an angel appeared to Moses in the flame of a burning bush.

After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning bush.

“ And when forty years had passed, an Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire in a bush, in the wilderness of Mount Sinai.

After 40 years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning bush.

And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.

“ After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the desert of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning bush.

“ When forty years were fulfilled, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.

“ This is the same Moses they had rejected with the words,‘ Who made you ruler and judge?’ He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.

In all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and mercy he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

You let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.

Then he blessed Joseph and said,“ May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked faithfully, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,the Angel who has delivered me from all harm— may he bless these boys. May they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they increase greatly on the earth.”

Now about the dead rising— have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him,‘ I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?

Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.

“ As the time drew near for God to fulfill his promise to Abraham, the number of our people in Egypt had greatly increased.

The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second timeand said,“ I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

Then he said,“ I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.

But as for you, the Lord took you and brought you out of the iron-smelting furnace, out of Egypt, to be the people of his inheritance, as you now are.

The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur.And he said,“ Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?”“ I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered.Then the angel of the Lord told her,“ Go back to your mistress and submit to her.”The angel added,“ I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”The angel of the Lord also said to her:“ You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery.He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.”She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her:“ You are the God who sees me,” for she said,“ I have now seen the One who sees me.”

In the womb he grasped his brother’s heel; as a man he struggled with God.He struggled with the angel and overcame him; he wept and begged for his favor. He found him at Bethel and talked with him there—the Lord God Almighty, the Lord is his name!

So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.

So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man.Then the man said,“ Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”The man asked him,“ What is your name?”“ Jacob,” he answered.Then the man said,“ Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”Jacob said,“ Please tell me your name.” But he replied,“ Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there.So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying,“ It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.”

Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children.

with the best gifts of the earth and its fullness and the favor of him who dwelt in the burning bush. Let all these rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers.

‘ I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.’ Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look.

On the first day of the third month after the Israelites left Egypt— on that very day— they came to the Desert of Sinai.After they set out from Rephidim, they entered the Desert of Sinai, and Israel camped there in the desert in front of the mountain.

“ I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty.

But in the account of the burning bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord‘ the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’
