吾之得有今日、皆賴天主之寵佑；惟予黽勉勞苦、視他人有過無不及、則未辜負天主之寵佑也。雖然、是亦天主寵佑而已、初非予之功也。

憶昔吾祖。客居埃及。不悟靈異。不念大德。紅海之濱。肆行叛逆。

諸徒未達、亦不敢以問。

此吾所為不辭勞苦一恃天主施於我躬之神力、而奮鬥者也。

然吾儕以參贊化育之身、亦有所懇求、深望爾等莫辜負天主之恩寵。

吾儕乃天主所假之手、爾等則為天主之田園、天主之第宅也。

然吾亦何敢自誇；吾之所以能使異邦人歸化者、實由基督躬自成之、

諸徒當時未達斯語、以其心尚有所蒙、故未解言旨、然亦不敢以問。

門徒弗悟、蓋當時厥心、猶有所蒙故但聞其言、而不識其蘊也。
