他對他的人民說：『看哪，以色列人眾民繁多強盛，勝過我們。來吧，我們要用巧計來對付他們，恐怕他們增多起來；若遇着戰事，他們就跟恨我們的仇敵聯合、來攻打我們，離開這地而上去。』於是埃及人設立了苦工頭目來轄制他們，用重擔苦害他們；他們就為法老建造貯藏城、比東和蘭塞。但是越發苦害他們，他們倒越發繁多，越發突破限量而發達；埃及人就因以色列人的緣故而鬧恐慌。埃及人嚴嚴地使以色列人作工：用很難作的苦工：像和灰泥、作磚，作田間各樣的工：就是埃及人嚴嚴叫他們去作的各樣苦工，使他們的生活逕是苦味。當時有希伯來的助產婦，一個名叫施弗拉，一個名叫普阿：埃及王對她們說：『你們給希伯來婦人接生看他們臨盆的時候：若是男兒，就讓他死；若是女兒，她就可以活着。』但是助產婦敬畏上帝，不照埃及王所吩咐的去作，竟讓男孩子活着。埃及王就把助產婦叫來，對她們說：『你們為甚麼這樣讓男孩子活着呢？』助產婦對法老說：『因為希伯來婦人跟埃及婦人不同：她們滿有活力；助產婦還沒來到以前，她們已經生產了。』上帝厚待助產婦；以色列民多起來，極其強盛。助產婦因為敬畏上帝，上帝便使她們成家立室。法老吩咐他的眾民說：『希伯來人所生的男兒，你們都要丟在河裏；一切女兒，你們都要讓她活着。』

敵人的心轉而恨惡永恆主的人民，設詭計害他僕人。

他們說：『來吧，我們將他們抹除，使他們不再成國；使以色列的名不再被記得。』他們同心商議，彼此結盟、要抵擋你：

牠的尾巴拖着天上星辰的三分之一，摔在地上。龍站在那將要生產的婦人面前，等她生產了、要吞喫她的孩子。那婦人產生了一個男兒、就是將來要用鐵杖管轄列國的。但她的孩子卻被攫到上帝面前、上帝寶座那裏。
