But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

Also, people outside the church must speak well of him so that he will not be disgraced and fall into the devil’s trap.In the same way, deacons must be well respected and have integrity. They must not be heavy drinkers or dishonest with money.They must be committed to the mystery of the faith now revealed and must live with a clear conscience.Before they are appointed as deacons, let them be closely examined. If they pass the test, then let them serve as deacons.In the same way, their wives must be respected and must not slander others. They must exercise self control and be faithful in everything they do.A deacon must be faithful to his wife, and he must manage his children and household well.Those who do well as deacons will be rewarded with respect from others and will have increased confidence in their faith in Christ Jesus.I am writing these things to you now, even though I hope to be with you soon,so that if I am delayed, you will know how people must conduct themselves in the household of God. This is the church of the living God, which is the pillar and foundation of the truth.

Choose some well respected men from each tribe who are known for their wisdom and understanding, and I will appoint them as your leaders.’

One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,“ Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.”So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way.

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Gather before me seventy men who are recognized as elders and leaders of Israel. Bring them to the Tabernacle to stand there with you.I will come down and talk to you there. I will take some of the Spirit that is upon you, and I will put the Spirit upon them also. They will bear the burden of the people along with you, so you will not have to carry it alone.“ And say to the people,‘ Purify yourselves, for tomorrow you will have meat to eat. You were whining, and the Lord heard you when you cried,“ Oh, for some meat! We were better off in Egypt!” Now the Lord will give you meat, and you will have to eat it.And it won’t be for just a day or two, or for five or ten or even twenty.You will eat it for a whole month until you gag and are sick of it. For you have rejected the Lord, who is here among you, and you have whined to him, saying,“ Why did we ever leave Egypt?”’”But Moses responded to the Lord,“ There are 600,000 foot soldiers here with me, and yet you say,‘ I will give them meat for a whole month!’Even if we butchered all our flocks and herds, would that satisfy them? Even if we caught all the fish in the sea, would that be enough?”Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Has my arm lost its power? Now you will see whether or not my word comes true!”So Moses went out and reported the Lord’s words to the people. He gathered the seventy elders and stationed them around the Tabernacle.And the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. Then he gave the seventy elders the same Spirit that was upon Moses. And when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But this never happened again.

So Pharaoh asked his officials,“ Can we find anyone else like this man so obviously filled with the spirit of God?”Then Pharaoh said to Joseph,“ Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are.

The Lord replied,“ Take Joshua son of Nun, who has the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.Present him to Eleazar the priest before the whole community, and publicly commission him to lead the people.

We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. He will be a spirit of justice to the one who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate. (niv)

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. (niv)
