Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty.

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and not hypocritical.And the fruit that consists of righteousness is planted in peace among those who make peace.

And he must be well thought of by those outside the faith, so that he may not fall into disgrace and be caught by the devil’s trap.Deacons likewise must be dignified, not two- faced, not given to excessive drinking, not greedy for gain,holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.And these also must be tested first and then let them serve as deacons if they are found blameless.Likewise also their wives must be dignified, not slanderous, temperate, faithful in every respect.Deacons must be husbands of one wife and good managers of their children and their own households.For those who have served well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these instructions to youin case I am delayed, to let you know how people ought to conduct themselves in the household of God, because it is the church of the living God, the support and bulwark of the truth.

Select wise and practical men, those known among your tribes, whom I may appoint as your leaders.”

While they were serving the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,“ Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”Then, after they had fasted and prayed and placed their hands on them, they sent them off.

The LORD said to Moses,“ Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know are elders of the people and officials over them, and bring them to the tent of meeting; let them take their position there with you.Then I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take part of the spirit that is on you, and will put it on them, and they will bear some of the burden of the people with you, so that you do not bear it all by yourself.“ And say to the people,‘ Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, and you will eat meat, for you have wept in the hearing of the LORD, saying,“ Who will give us meat to eat, for life was good for us in Egypt?” Therefore the LORD will give you meat, and you will eat.You will eat, not just one day, nor two days, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days,but a whole month, until it comes out your nostrils and makes you sick, because you have despised the LORD who is among you and have wept before him, saying,“ Why did we ever come out of Egypt?”’”Moses said,“ The people around me are 600,000 on foot; but you say,‘ I will give them meat, that they may eat for a whole month.’Would they have enough if the flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? If all the fish of the sea were caught for them, would they have enough?”And the LORD said to Moses,“ Is the LORD’s hand shortened? Now you will see whether my word to you will come true or not!”So Moses went out and told the people the words of the LORD. He then gathered seventy men of the elders of the people and had them stand around the tabernacle.And the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to them, and he took some of the Spirit that was on Moses and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but did not do so again.

So Pharaoh asked his officials,“ Can we find a man like Joseph, one in whom the Spirit of God is present?”So Pharaoh said to Joseph,“ Because God has enabled you to know all this, there is no one as wise and discerning as you are!

The LORD replied to Moses,“ Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is such a spirit, and lay your hand on him;set him before Eleazar the priest and before the whole community, and commission him publicly.

We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. With them they sent the following letter: The apostles and elders, your brothers, To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia: Greetings. (niv)

When the believers learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus. (niv)

Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, (niv)

The men replied,“ We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God- fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.” (niv)

Then, when I arrive, I will give letters of introduction to the men you approve and send them with your gift to Jerusalem. (niv)

“ A man named Ananias came to see me. He was a devout observer of the law and highly respected by all the Jews living there. (niv)

What is more, he was chosen by the churches to accompany us as we carry the offering, which we administer in order to honor the Lord himself and to show our eagerness to help.We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this liberal gift.For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man. “ But you are not to be called‘ Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. (niv)

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (niv)

He will be a spirit of justice to the one who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate. (niv)

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. (niv)

I thought,‘ Age should speak; advanced years should teach wisdom.’But it is the spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding. (niv)

To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, (niv)

The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him. (niv)
