Furthermore, he must have a good reputation among outsiders, so that he does not fall into disgrace and the devil’s trap.Deacons, likewise, should be worthy of respect, not hypocritical, not drinking a lot of wine, not greedy for money,holding the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.They must also be tested first; if they prove blameless, then they can serve as deacons.Wives, likewise, should be worthy of respect, not slanderers, self-controlled, faithful in everything.Deacons are to be husbands of one wife, managing their children and their own households competently.For those who have served well as deacons acquire a good standing for themselves and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.I write these things to you, hoping to come to you soon.But if I should be delayed, I have written so that you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

Appoint for yourselves wise, understanding, and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will make them your leaders.

As they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,“ Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”Then after they had fasted, prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them off.

The LORD answered Moses,“ Bring me seventy men from Israel known to you as elders and officers of the people. Take them to the tent of meeting and have them stand there with you.Then I will come down and speak with you there. I will take some of the Spirit who is on you and put the Spirit on them. They will help you bear the burden of the people, so that you do not have to bear it by yourself.“ Tell the people: Consecrate yourselves in readiness for tomorrow, and you will eat meat because you wept in the LORD’s hearing,‘ Who will feed us meat? We were better off in Egypt.’ The LORD will give you meat and you will eat.You will eat, not for one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days,but for a whole month— until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes nauseating to you— because you have rejected the LORD who is among you, and wept before him,‘ Why did we ever leave Egypt?’”But Moses replied,“ I’m in the middle of a people with six hundred thousand foot soldiers, yet you say,‘ I will give them meat, and they will eat for a month.’If flocks and herds were slaughtered for them, would they have enough? Or if all the fish in the sea were caught for them, would they have enough?”The LORD answered Moses,“ Is the LORD’s arm weak? Now you will see whether or not what I have promised will happen to you.”Moses went out and told the people the words of the LORD. He brought seventy men from the elders of the people and had them stand around the tent.Then the LORD descended in the cloud and spoke to him. He took some of the Spirit who was on Moses and placed the Spirit on the seventy elders. As the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they never did it again.

and he said to them,“ Can we find anyone like this, a man who has God’s spirit in him?”So Pharaoh said to Joseph,“ Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one as discerning and wise as you are.

The LORD replied to Moses,“ Take Joshua son of Nun, a man who has the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.Have him stand before the priest Eleazar and the whole community, and commission him in their sight.

We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (niv)

He will be a spirit of justice to the one who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate. (niv)

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. (niv)

To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, (niv)

The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him. (niv)
