So they persuaded some men to lie about Stephen, saying,“ We heard him blaspheme Moses, and even God.”

於是他們教唆人說：『我們曾聽見他說了謗讟摩西和上帝的話。』

於是他們暗中唆使人說：「我們聽過這個人針對摩西和神說褻瀆的話語。」

遂賄人使言曰、我儕曾聞其有謗凟摩西及上帝之言、

乃賄人使流言曰、我聞此人、僭妄摩西及上帝、

乃賄人使流言云、我聞此人出言褻瀆摩西及天主、

眾乃唆使流言、謂其誹謗摩西、褻瀆天主。

Then they secretly persuaded some men to say,“ We have heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.”

Then in secret they talked some men into lying about Stephen. They said,“ We heard Stephen speak evil things against Moses and against God.”

Then they secretly instigated men who said,“ We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

Then they secretly persuaded some men to say,“ We heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

Then they secretly induced men to say,“ We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

Then they secretly induced men to say,“ We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

Then they suborned men, who said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

Then they persuaded some men to say,“ We heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God!”

Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and[ against] God.

Then they secretly instigated some men to say,“ We have heard this man speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

Then they secretly induced men to say,“ We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

Inside, the leading priests and the entire high council were trying to find witnesses who would lie about Jesus, so they could put him to death.But even though they found many who agreed to give false witness, they could not use anyone’s testimony. Finally, two men came forward

This is because they have never known the Father or me.

And some people even slander us by claiming that we say,“ The more we sin, the better it is!” Those who say such things deserve to be condemned.

They asked Festus as a favor to transfer Paul to Jerusalem( planning to ambush and kill him on the way).

After hearing this, they praised God. And then they said,“ You know, dear brother, how many thousands of Jews have also believed, and they all follow the law of Moses very seriously.But the Jewish believers here in Jerusalem have been told that you are teaching all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn their backs on the laws of Moses. They’ve heard that you teach them not to circumcise their children or follow other Jewish customs.What should we do? They will certainly hear that you have come.

The next morning a group of Jews got together and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.There were more than forty of them in the conspiracy.They went to the leading priests and elders and told them,“ We have bound ourselves with an oath to eat nothing until we have killed Paul.So you and the high council should ask the commander to bring Paul back to the council again. Pretend you want to examine his case more fully. We will kill him on the way.”

A meeting with the elders was called, and they decided to give the soldiers a large bribe.They told the soldiers,“ You must say,‘ Jesus’ disciples came during the night while we were sleeping, and they stole his body.’If the governor hears about it, we’ll stand up for you so you won’t get in trouble.”So the guards accepted the bribe and said what they were told to say. Their story spread widely among the Jews, and they still tell it today.

When Paul arrived, the Jewish leaders from Jerusalem gathered around and made many serious accusations they couldn’t prove.

The lying witnesses said,“ This man is always speaking against the holy Temple and against the law of Moses.

Anyone who blasphemes the Name of the Lord must be stoned to death by the whole community of Israel. Any native born Israelite or foreigner among you who blasphemes the Name of the Lord must be put to death.

even though I used to blaspheme the name of Christ. In my insolence, I persecuted his people. But God had mercy on me because I did it in ignorance and unbelief.

But when they opposed and insulted him, Paul shook the dust from his clothes and said,“ Your blood is upon your own heads— I am innocent. From now on I will go preach to the Gentiles.”

“ Moses himself told the people of Israel,‘ God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your own people.’Moses was with our ancestors, the assembly of God’s people in the wilderness, when the angel spoke to him at Mount Sinai. And there Moses received life giving words to pass on to us.“ But our ancestors refused to listen to Moses. They rejected him and wanted to return to Egypt.

yelling,“ Men of Israel, help us! This is the man who preaches against our people everywhere and tells everybody to disobey the Jewish laws. He speaks against the Temple— and even defiles this holy place by bringing in Gentiles.”

“ Yet it isn’t I who will accuse you before the Father. Moses will accuse you! Yes, Moses, in whom you put your hopes.If you really believed Moses, you would believe me, because he wrote about me.But since you don’t believe what he wrote, how will you believe what I say?”

For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.

And then seat two scoundrels across from him who will accuse him of cursing God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death.”So the elders and other town leaders followed the instructions Jezebel had written in the letters.They called for a fast and put Naboth at a prominent place before the people.Then the two scoundrels came and sat down across from him. And they accused Naboth before all the people, saying,“ He cursed God and the king.” So he was dragged outside the town and stoned to death.

For he was faithful to God, who appointed him, just as Moses served faithfully when he was entrusted with God’s entire house.But Jesus deserves far more glory than Moses, just as a person who builds a house deserves more praise than the house itself.For every house has a builder, but the one who built everything is God.Moses was certainly faithful in God’s house as a servant. His work was an illustration of the truths God would reveal later.

We know God spoke to Moses, but we don’t even know where this man comes from.”

Five days later Ananias, the high priest, arrived with some of the Jewish elders and the lawyer Tertullus, to present their case against Paul to the governor.When Paul was called in, Tertullus presented the charges against Paul in the following address to the governor:“ You have provided a long period of peace for us Jews and with foresight have enacted reforms for us.For all of this, Your Excellency, we are very grateful to you.But I don’t want to bore you, so please give me your attention for only a moment.We have found this man to be a troublemaker who is constantly stirring up riots among the Jews all over the world. He is a ringleader of the cult known as the Nazarenes.Furthermore, he was trying to desecrate the Temple when we arrested him.

For these laws of Moses have been preached in Jewish synagogues in every city on every Sabbath for many generations.”

Many times I had them punished in the synagogues to get them to curse Jesus. I was so violently opposed to them that I even chased them down in foreign cities.

They replied,“ We’re stoning you not for any good work, but for blasphemy! You, a mere man, claim to be God.”Jesus replied,“ It is written in your own Scriptures that God said to certain leaders of the people,‘ I say, you are gods!’And you know that the Scriptures cannot be altered. So if those people who received God’s message were called‘ gods,’why do you call it blasphemy when I say,‘ I am the Son of God’? After all, the Father set me apart and sent me into the world.
