Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Your people will volunteer freely on the day of Your power; In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn, Your youth are to You as the dew.

They have treated father and mother with contempt among you. They have oppressed the stranger in your midst; they have oppressed the orphan and the widow among you.

Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were killed by the destroyer.

Or do you think that the Scripture says to no purpose,“ He jealously desires the Spirit whom He has made to dwell in us”?

A widow is to be put on the list only if she is not less than sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,

but if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to show proper respect for their own family and to give back compensation to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.Now she who is actually a widow and has been left alone has set her hope on God, and she continues in requests and prayers night and day.
